Henbury School is shortlisted as one of 23 national finalists in the 2011 Flame Awards. The annual FLAME Awards, reward Australian schools for using creative and engaging ways to deliver music education. These awards are run by the Music Council of Australia’s Music: Play for Life campaign. All students at Henbury have access to music education with music making embedded in class routines. There is a weekly participatory singing, instrumental and dance program, class music programs, choir open to all students and staff, rock band and instrumental lessons. Music technologies are accessible for all students. The sensory room provides access to touch screen, movement and touch activated music technology. Music technology is utilised at class level and with individual students for composition and recording. Through the creative use of technologies, improvised voice, movement and instrumental activities, and specialised teaching approaches, all students have access to music learning, even those with profound disabilities.
