Parents/Carers
Hello to all members of our Henbury community. Four weeks in and the school is humming. There are a number of activities and events that are happening over the next few weeks of term.
Acquaintance Evening & Youth Disability Expo
Our annual Acquaintance Evening & Youth Disability Expo will take place on Thursday 25 February from 5-7 pm in the hall, this is a fantastic event for both parents/carers and students to attend. More details in the article below. Please note that there will be a free barbeque for all attendees.
Parents as Career Transition Support (PACTS)
Henbury School will run the PACTS workshops again in 2016. The PACTS program is a series of information and education workshops for parents of secondary school students in their final year of schooling. The first workshop will take place at Henbury School on Thursday 10 March from 5.00 – 6.30pm. A light dinner, tea and coffee, with child minding will be provided. Bookings for this can be made with Sarah Corry 89275088. Please see attached flyer.
Progressive Achievement Tests (PAT)
A majority of students from Henbury School have undertaken progressive achievement tests in reading and maths through their classes. These tests which were done on line will provide the school with achievement levels for students which can be measured over the year. Students have undertaken these tests this week and will be tested again in week 2 of term 4 so as to determine increases in their reading (PATR) and their Maths (PATM).
TEAP’s and EAP’s
The TEAP/EAP process began this week, teachers will have made contact with parents/carers to book in a time for their TEAP/EAP appointment. A reminder that these meetings are absolutely crucial to determine your child’s goals for the year. Henbury School is using a new reporting format (Accelerus) so they will look different to last years.
RDA - Riding for the Disabled
Riding for the disabled will start again in term 2, students will bring notes home in the very near future giving parents the opportunity for their child to participate in this excellent opportunity. Sports vouchers can be used to participate in this elective.
Swimming
Swimming will begin in semester 2, with teachers currently undertaking their rescue swimming certificates run by Royal Surf Life Saving.

Greetings from the boys in B1!
The boys in B1 have had a great start to Term 1, 2016. We have four boys in our class, James, Deacon, Fu Seng and Bryce. Deacon and Bryce are new to Henbury School this year so we have been spending the first few weeks of school getting to know each other.
Our nutrition program has kicked off to an exciting start this year. So far we have cooked lasagna and a chicken cashew dish which were both very yummy! We also spoilt ourselves and baked some choc chip cookies which Deacon took a plate to our lovely neighbours in B2 to enjoy.
We have been exploring lots of sensory activities in our class such as rice, corn, painting and playdough. We have been joining in with the Sensory Café offered at our school which has allowed us to experience a variety of different sensory materials!
On Wednesday afternoons we have been going over to classroom G2 for a ‘Music Jam Session’ with a group of other classes. This has been great for us to get to know some of the other students in our school. Fu Seng has really enjoyed music and getting up to sing on the microphone.
In Science with Joan, the boys have been planting seeds and sorting out our recycling buckets. James assisted with the planting of the seeds and Bryce really enjoyed watering them.
We have a lot of exciting things planned this term. We have already begun to establish some really good friendships in our classroom.
We hope you enjoyed reading our class update!
From the boys in B1
Hello from C4
What a fun start to the year we’ve had! We have a class of five students who now know each other’s names and some of each other’s likes and dislikes! Everyone seems ready to begin the year positively, and to work on becoming good learners. We are learning that everyone is different and that it is important to look for the positives in other people, and be tolerant when things annoy us. In weeks 1 and 2 we have been creating new Maths games, covering books, planning healthy meals to cook, and beginning Rock and Water, Margie’s gym and Community Access programs.
In Week 2 we visited the Museum of Arts and Sciences to see and play with the Lego exhibition. This got us feeling creative, and we sat for nearly an hour, playing with all the pieces.

Molly and Coral-Lee built houses.
We will use Lego in our class this year, to help build our understanding of fractions.
