Assistant Principal’s Report
Dear Parents and Carers
Hello to all our members of the Henbury community. We are now three weeks into the new school and four weeks into the term, with students settling in beautifully. The new surrounds and the space certainly are conducive to a great learning environment.
School Parent Survey
Each year parents, guardians, students and staff are asked to complete a school survey. This is an opportunity to provide feedback on the operation of our school. The survey began on Monday 15 August 2016 and runs until Friday 2 September 2016. Using the survey results, our school can develop plans to improve the way it runs. If you do not have the internet but would be happy to fill out a survey please feel free to do this at our school. The link is included below.

The Clontarf Foundation exists to improve the education, discipline, life skills, self esteem and employment prospects of young aboriginal men and by doing so, equips them to participate more meaningfully in society.
Henbury School’s participation will initially take the form of membership of the Dripstone Middle School academy, up to 2 training sessions a week in our hall and later training sessions and school trips with Dripstone academy students. All male students can participate in the program at Henbury school.
Careers Expo
50 of our students were able to take part in an excursion to the Convention Centre last Wednesday 17 August which highlighted various career pathways that students might one day be able to pursue. Students were able to meet representatives from many organisations who were able to convey information to them regarding future work options available.

School Survey
All parents and guardians, teachers and students are encouraged to have their say about their school community by participating in the 2016 School Survey.
The survey, open from Monday 15 August to Friday 2 September, allows your school to gain an understanding of what you think about the school. The results will help inform future planning and drive improvement to your school.
The school survey is relatively simple and easy and will take approximately 10 - 15 minutes to complete. The survey can be conducted online or you can request a printed version from your school. The link is provided below.
https://www.schoolsurvey.edu.au/s/parents16
The results of the survey will help inform your school about your experiences and provide valuable information about what it is doing well and where it can improve.
For further information or to request assistance in completing the survey, please contact Brenda Moore, Assistant Principal, 89977077.
The B1 boys are now in Purple 2!
The boys in Purple 2 have had a great start in our new school. James, Deacon, Fu Seng and Bryce really love our new purple classroom. We have so much more space, including a sensory room in our classroom where Bryce enjoys his guitar.
Over the first couple of weeks in the new school we spent a lot of time getting to know what was around and where to go. The boys have really enjoyed some of the new play equipment. Deacon and Fu Seng had a ball sharing the swing. James particularly likes the in-ground trampoline and Bryce has really enjoyed sitting on the Sway Fun with his peers at break times.
This Semester we have a lot of new and different exciting things planned and a lot of great programs that we are continuing. Once we settled in, we got straight back into working hard with our literacy, numeracy and nutrition program.
This Term we have a lot of health and physical education programs on the agenda!
Fu Seng and Deacon will be participating in the Rising Stars basketball program. Every Friday we have been training with the basketball pros from Blue 4! They have been helping us to develop some great ball skills and practice teamwork. We are very excited to start playing games and to put our newly learned skills into action.
Other things we have planned include class swimming, Margy’s Gym and Total Recreation. We are excited to use the new heated swimming pool, develop some great swimming skills and have some fun! We are very lucky to have Margy come to our school every Monday and support us to learn a variety of different exercises. In Total Recreation we are focusing on AFL and so far we have really enjoyed our first couple of sessions.
In the arts we are focusing on dance and continuing with our weekly Music Jam sessions where we have started a new graphic score called ‘The Animals Go Wild’.
We hope you have enjoyed reading our update!
From the boys in Purple 2.
Greetings from Purple 3
Wow what a great start to the new term. A new school, new equipment and a new set of learning activities. We continue to work hard on our learning goals and have added bowling to our Thursday afternoon sessions. We have lots of fun each week.
Our enterprise Education task is to create greeting cards using coloured filter papers. These are for sale at $3 each or 10 for $20, from our school and the Op Shop. At present we are busy making a large supply of Christmas Cards ready for the rush. We also have a number of ready to go cards you might want to use for Father’s Day, wink wink!
