Assistant Principal's Report
Dear Parents/Carers
Hello to all our members of the Henbury community. It doesn't seem like we have been back at school for four weeks, but there have been lots of things happening since the previous newsletter.
EAP/TEAP Meetings
Staff are now preparing for EAP/TEAP report meetings which will occur in weeks 5 & 6. Thank you parents/carers for contacting the school to make your bookings and we look forward to discussing your child's progress with you in these meetings.
PAT R and PAT M Testing
Over the previous 2 weeks, our students have completed Progressive Achievement Tests (PAT) in Comprehension and in Mathematics. Students completed these tests in term 1 and again this term. Data on improvement or otherwise that we can collect from these tests will enable our school to better target specific areas for improvement in teaching strategies in future years.
Music Count us in
Students will be once again attending this year's Music Count us in program at Casuarina Square Thursday this week and I am sure there will be a rewarding and enjoyable experience to be had by all.
Additional Maintenance Officer
We have been fortunate to secure the services of an additional maintenance officer at our school. Mr Neil Geary will be working with us for part of Wednesday, Thursday and Friday for the remainder of the year. Welcome Neil.
Disco
Last Thursday evening our yellow block teachers, Shannon and Riley organised and ran an extremely well attended and successful Disco held from 6-8pm. A very large number of students attended what was our inaugural Disco in our new hall and expressed great excitement whilst participating.
Henbury Stars Foundation Program
Last Monday lunchtime representatives from the Dripstone Girls Stars program came to meet girls from Henbury and ran a modified Stars program in the hall. This was a good opportunity for all our female students to go along and meet Mark and Kylie to see what Stars is all about. Henbury will be running this program next year for our Indigenous girls. Applications to join the program are available and should be brought home by your child. Stars Foundation was established to provide much-needed support to young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and address an inequity and obvious gap in service provision. The purpose of the Stars Foundation is improving education and Health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young women.

SCHOOL REVIEW
The school review was held 23 and 24 March 2016. The outcomes of the review will be included in each newsletter. Included this week are Domain 6 - Systematic Curriculum Delivery and Domain 7 - Differentiated Classroom Learning. This data will be used when writing the Strategic Improvement Plan towards the end of the year.
Greetings from Green 4
Greetings from Green 4! The new school is awesome and we love all the space we have. Some of the new programs this term have been competition basketball at Marrara stadium and swimming in the new pool. We are continuing our tie-dye business from the Enterprise Ed room. We have started dying pencil cases, pillow cases and tea-towels this term. All are available at the Henbury Op Shop. In week 2 we enjoyed a talk about different birds in Darwin, and an organised bird count around the school. Our class identified 5 Corella, 1 black kite, 1 Australasian Fig-bird, 2 Magpie Lark, 3 Masked Lapwing (Plover), 1 Blue-faced Honey-Eater, 1 Brown Honey-Eater and 1 Lemon-bellied Fly-Catcher. All in 20 minutes!

Halloween Disco
On Thursday the 27th of October Yellow Block hosted a marvellous disco with a spooky Halloween theme. The Disco featured DJ Hybrid who generously donated his time and talents as well as free pizza enjoyed by all. Over 80 people attended the event with students and staff putting in a great effort with dressing up. We had witches, ghost busters, superheros, pumpkins, clowns, devils, skeletons, Dracula's, zombies, the list goes on. There were prizes for best dressed and best dancers and free face painting. What a successful night for Henbury School's first ever afterhours Disco! Can't wait to do it again.

ART EXHIBITION
In week 3 of this term, CSC 1 Henbury Outreach organised a whole school Art Exhibition. In total 81 art works from across Henbury campus and outreach classrooms were shown for visitors, staff and students to see.
Leizl Mowbray and Sue Price were invited to be the judges for this event. It was very hard for them to choose the winners because everyone did an outstanding job.

Congratulations
Joan Ocampo, Henbury School's Science and Sustainability Teacher success story was chosen to be included in this year's Northern Territory Government Department of Education's Annual Report. The report was about her exemplary work in coordinating the Kids Teaching Kids Day and receiving the Teacher Heroes Excellence Award. Joan's massive effort in bringing in 101 students from six guest schools to participate in activities and student-led workshops during the day, saw her as one of only seven teachers recognised nationally by the Kids Teaching Kids foundation.
Kids Teaching Kids Melbourne Water National Conference
Joan Ocampo joined more than 600 students from around Australia last 25-26th of October at Kids Teaching Kids Melbourne Water National Conference. She volunteered as workshop facilitator for mainstream primary and secondary schools during the event and facilitated student-led workshops at the Melbourne University and Collingwood Children's Farm. The two day event was filled with optimism and commitment that what students learned will be brought back to their schools as future environmental leaders who will help create a more sustainable environment. Joan was also filled with hope that Henbury students will be able to access and have the opportunity to attend this national conference in the near future."
