Principal’s Report

Dear Parents/Carers

Halikos group presents Henbury Corporate Luncheon

On Friday 9 December, this wonderful event occurred. We had over 370 people attend, with performances by the students, either in the choir, the band or dancing. The coffee trailer was launched at the event with the Coffee Crew students making coffee for guests. The final dollar figure of what was raised is still being worked on, with bills that have to be paid etc.

At the event, in my speech, I focused on the history of the HCL

In 2010 a school council member worked at the Darwin Convention Centre, in a fundraising conversation he planted a small seed, why settle for small raffles when you could think big and run a fundraiser on a larger scale. It was with significant business innocence that Henbury began this journey. Ana Pethick and I went for the first meeting with Andrea Wicking who was working with the Darwin Convention Centre at the time. At this meeting we talked with passion about what we wanted but still with the educator’s hat on. I thank Andrea for listening on the day and for her foresight to see that what we wanted could be feasible, I also thank her for the many coaching and mentoring sessions that followed. From the meeting came the Convention Centres undertaking to become our first major sponsor and are still one of our major sponsors.

Ana went on maternity leave and this void was filled by the extraordinary Sarah Corry. Sarah comes to me and says I have had a thought and I wait for the next big idea that will add to the event. Sarah has taken all the foundation work and transformed the Luncheon into something bigger and where the Halikos Group presents the Henbury Corporate Luncheon is now a flagship event at this time of the year.

The Luncheon is organised by a small team of dedicated teachers and support staff. This group have no formal events managing qualifications but are the most passionate and dedicated group of staff that I have worked with. They do this during their recess, lunchtimes and after school hours. I would like to thank all staff members over the years who have made the HCL what it is today.

I wish all parents and carers a lovely festive holiday. School for students resumes Monday 30 January 2017.

Dripstone Middle School Outreach

This semester our class made masks for our model-making sessions. We started with a template that we needed to cut out and glue the matching tabs together. Once the mask was constructed we covered them in paper mache and painted them in our choice of colours. We ended up with a jaguar, T-rex, panda, gas mask, dragon, beagle, skull and lion.
