Nutrition and Community Access Programs
Nutrition programs and excursions out and about in the community are based on student contributions towards the purchase of food and cost for transport/venues. These programs are integral to teaching life skills in menu planning, nutritional value of food, shopping, meal preparation and involvement in activities within the community. These programs are voluntary. The costs associated with these programs have not increased since 2013. The new costs for 2017 are $27.50/week for Nutrition and $8.50/week for Community Access excursions. Therefore a total of $36/week. Payments can be made via direct debit, cash, cheque, EFTPOS and Basics Card. Centrelink payment plans are also available. Please phone the school for more information.
Students who don’t participate in the nutrition program will need to bring their own food to school. Please note that each student is required to pay the excursion cost of $8.50 per week even if they are not participating in the nutrition program. If you have any questions please contact your child’s teacher. Nutrition Program consent forms have been sent home through your child’s communication book. Please ensure they are completed and returned to school by 24 February. If forms are not returned students will need to continue to bring recess and lunch from home. Students cannot access these programs if they still have outstanding money from 2016.

Welcome back from Purple 2!
This year Purple 2 consists of five young men and three staff members. Fu Seng, Deacon and James have returned and Paulo and Tom are new to Henbury School this year. Wanderson and Jessica are back again and we welcome Lesley to our team.
Over the first couple of weeks we have spent some time getting to know each other. Fu Seng really enjoys watching music videos on the computer. Deacon loves working on the iPad and reading lots of books in the library. James really enjoys listening to music and playing different switch activities on the CommBox. Paulo likes watching food being cooked in the pan during cooking lessons. Tom likes the sensory room and some of the sensory boxes we have available in Purple 2.
This year Purple 2 have a lot planned! Once we settled back in, we got straight back into working hard with our literacy, numeracy and nutrition program. Other programs that are starting up include Music Jam sessions, Rock and Water, Choir, Gym, Community Access, Human Growth and Development and a whole lot more. This year Purple 2 is lucky to have Sue come in each week to work with us for a sensory session. We have really enjoyed our first few classes with her.
That is all for now, we hope you have enjoyed reading our update!
From the Purple 2 team.
GREETINGS FROM PURPLE 3
Welcome to 2017. This year our class has five members. Roxanne, Banjo, Michael, Justin and Jeremy. We are working hard to be a team and display team working skills in all that we do. We are a very healthy class and make a variety of different foods for recess and lunch under our nutrition program. We’ve been especially active out in the school yard and work with Purple 4 and 5 for Gym and some members in Purple 3 for Just Dance and Yoga.

We look forward to a very busy but productive year ahead.
Cheers,
Nicole and Shelley
