Principal’s Report

Parents/Carers

All T/EAP meetings have been held. Thank you to parents and carers who made time to come to the meetings. Staff will be writing up the plans to send home for parents/carers to sign and send back or to make adjustments. The plans are integral to the work students will undertake in the coming year. The school is aiming to send plans home in Week 10 of term 1.

Congratulations to Deborah Hall and Lauren Hofmeyer who will be presenting at the Australian Association of Special Education (AASE) National Conference. The conference will be held in Darwin from the 6th-7th of April this year. The session is entitled: Rich tasks, confident young people and curriculum success. This session will focus on Henbury School’s Modified NTCET journey, specifically the experience and effects on students and families and post school options for our young people. The school will take part in hosting a visit for conference delegates on Thursday 6 April. Delegates will view students working in various enterprises, Barista, Bakery, SenseSational Designs, Workshop and Horticulture in the Farm.

Rising Stars Basketball

The 2017 competition started Friday 17 March. The school has four teams entered this year (44 students from 10 classes) and by all accounts students had a great time. A big shout out goes to Bob Jenkins (Buslink Charter Manager) for organising to get students to and from Marrara. Due to the generosity students do not have to wait around after the games have finished. Profits from the BBQ on Expo afternoon will go towards ongoing costs for Semester two.

Here is the link to see game times for the rest of the tournament.

Red Mouse Graphics

Natasha has designed our school yearbook for the past 4 years. Natasha has taken the time to learn about our school and the message we want to send to the community. This has produced a quality product that we are very proud of. I would highly recommend her to work with your school or business.

BLUE 1

What a busy start to Term 1 we’ve had! This year we welcomed Josie-Lyn to Henbury School who has settled in nicely and we also welcomed back Tessa and Indah. So far this term we have spent a lot of time getting to know each other and our teachers as well as learning more about our school values. In between our literacy and math sessions we have planted sunflowers in pots in our classroom -here is a photo of some of our Sunflowers starting to grow - we have also made pinch pots out of air dried clay which we painted, here is a photo of Tessa's pretty pink one. On Friday afternoons we enjoy our sensory sessions where we create different things to explore with our senses. So far we have made playdough, goo and experimented with air dry clay. Here is a photo of Indah and Josie enjoying the feeling of goo between their fingers. Even with our busy schedule we manage to go on community access on Wednesdays so far this term we have been to Nightcliff Foreshore and East point, this week we are going to the Botanical Gardens. Here are some photos of Josie and Indah enjoying the scenery at East Point. The students of Blue 1 are looking forward to what the rest of the year will bring and are excited to learn many new things and work hard to achieve the best outcomes they can.

BLUE 2

It has been a busy start to the year for Blue 2. We welcomed Danny into the class who has settled in well and become an important member of Blue 2. We have started a couple of new programs, in particular cooking and we have planted a new vegetable garden in Henbury’s farm. Last week we cooked pasta bolognaise and savoury mince that we will enjoy for lunch. In our vegetable garden we have planted tomatoes, cucumbers, parsley and lettuce, we also planted carrot seeds.
