Parents/Carers
T/EAP meetings are now complete with informative goals now in place for our students. T/EAP plans will go out in week 1 next term. Thank you to all parents and carers who contributed to this process; goal setting is an invaluable part of what we do here at Henbury School.
PAT Testing
PAT Maths and Reading testing also occurred across the school this week; students were required to use their iPads to enter results making the administration of the tests easier and more enjoyable for our students.

Greeting from Sanderson Outreach!
At Sanderson outreach, this year, we have a class of five boys – Bradin, Keanu, Alex, Mickey and Jaydon. We started off the year with a new student and an interesting program that involved a variety of classroom and outdoor activities. SMS Outreach boys do work trainings at The Patch and Henbury OP shop and participate in the small classroom business called “Cupcake Masters”. Our unit of work, for the Semester is about Intercultural understanding which allows students to recognise and develop respect for all cultures within and outside their communities. Together with these, we do cooking, sports, science, photography, woodwork.
At SMS Outreach our main focus is on developing effective life skills strategies through visible learning, to deal effectively with the demands and challenges of everyday life. We put a lot of emphasis on Henbury school’s values that are: Respect, Teamwork, Responsibility, Resilience and Compassion, within and outside class activities.
We are looking forward to a busy and productive year.

SMS students were shown a local bee hive at the Patch by the work trainer. When taste tested it was revealed that the honey had a tangy flavour because the local bees collected the nectar from lemon flowers.

Greeting from Green 1
What a busy start to 2017! This year we have a wonderful class of 5 girls – Leah, Mary, Mikaylah, Hayley and Honor. We have been settling into our classroom, as well as the school for our four Year 7 girls. We have a very full timetable that includes daily numeracy and literacy, class swimming, community access, shopping and class cooking, work training at the Op Shop and finally getting some down time in the sensory room on a Friday afternoon. For community access we have been to the Military museum, Kingpin, the Wharf, Nightcliff Foreshore, Officeworks and Casuarina. We have learnt lots on these excursions and have a great time talking about our discoveries during our daily reflection. This term we have also started learning about what a growth mindset is, and how we can stop ourselves falling into the pit!
We look forward to getting to know each other better as the school year progresses, finding new friendships and becoming part of Henbury.

Blue 4
Wow, such a busy start to the learning year in Blue 4. Everyone has started their Transition 2 Work Training. Banjo is enjoying using the tools in Woodwork and has completed a wooden box. Rosemary and Nicole are excited every Monday morning when they get to go down to the Hair Salon and style the mannequin’s hair, and Amanda and Pearl have been very busy getting creative in Sensational Design.
Blue 4 students are once again participating in The Rising Stars program. All of the students were excited and were talking tactics 3 weeks prior to the competition starting. It is great to see the resilience and teamwork between players developing!
We have all started going to Margie’s Gym on a Monday morning, and we are getting strong while working on our strength training - getting sweaty is a common feeling amongst everyone.
This Term, we have had 2 class parties. First we celebrated Pearl Malapitan’s 16th birthday and then we celebrated Amanda Taylor’s 16th birthday!

Dripstone Middle School Outreach
We’ve had a very busy Term 1 at DMS Outreach. Our class has been focussing on Healthy Lifestyles. We are trying really hard to choose nutritious food and drinks for our daily meal program. We have been regularly walking the 1.6km loop around Dripstone and Henbury campuses. Our best time so far is 17 minutes and burnt 100 calories. We’ve also joined the Edge gym at Casuarina for a weekly session with a personal trainer. We’re all feeling a little bit sore but stronger and fitter for it!
