Deb Hall is on long service leave for Term 3 and we welcome Andrea White whom will be backfilling to Deb. Last week was the one year mark of us being in the new school. New visitors always comment on the great atmosphere and what great buildings we have. You may have noticed that school signage is starting to go up. Have you seen the new sign at the corner of Henbury Ave and Trower Road? This sign will display information on up and coming school events. The internal Wayfinding signs have been installed.

Certificate II in Work Skills
Earlier this year, Henbury School was successful in applying for an equity training grant. This grant allowed us to partner with BCA to deliver a Certificate II Work Skills and Vocational Pathways to our Senior Outreach students. This certificate is being delivered in 5 x 1 week blocks at CSC.
Students are learning a variety of important skills including communicating in the workplace, work-related numeracy tasks and using digital technology. These skills will be useful for employment beyond school.
Our BCA facilitator Anna Tullemans, has extensive experience as a special needs educator and gifted Henbury School with a copy of the book she co-authored with Sue Larkey - The Essential Guide to Secondary School: A guide for teachers and families of students with ASD. Anna’s enthusiasm and skill in delivering and adapting material for our cohort has been appreciated by both students and classroom staff. She has also managed to make learning fun, with some music and dance breaks in between course work and assessments!

Semester 1 was busy and went so fast! Our week began with walking to Coles to buy our food for the week, and on Tuesday we cooked our meal of the week. Our favourite meals last semester were the mini quiches, lasagne and home-made spring rolls.

For Community Access we had alternated between bowling at Planet Tenpin and working at the school Op Shop. In Week 7 we went to the Nightcliff Café for a milkshake and a walk on the beach as a special treat.

Our unit of work in Term 2 was the Solar System. We now know the order of the eight planets from the Sun, as well as facts about the dwarf planets and their moons. We like to sing along to u-tube songs about the planets, which helps us remember the information.
