Principal’s Report
Goodness, what a busy two weeks we’ve had since the last newsletter.
Family Night
Family night was a huge success with more than 20 families attending. Many parents commented on the quality of the curries and how they were of restaurant quality. Thank you to all the classes who made them, with love, for the Family Night.
The disco was also a huge success. The students and their siblings rocking it out with their friends and parents. So good to see the huge grins on everyone’s faces.
School Perception Survey.
Thank you, thank you, thank you to the many parents and carers who completed the School Perception Survey this year. We had 42 responses this year, up from 33 last year. The more we get, the better we are able to take your feedback and further improve our amazing school. Results will come out in later newsletters.
NT Skills and Employment Careers Expo
Seventy two students attended the NT Skills and Employment Careers Expo at the Convention Centre. This was held on Thursday the 31st of August (Term 3) at the Convention Centre. There were lots of hands on activities in the Try-A-Skill section and opportunities to collect information about possible career pathways from a variety of business and community organisations. Many came away with ideas around what they would like to do when they leave school. Our wonderful Crewz’n’Brew were trading there on the day as well.
Excellence in Building Awards.
On Friday 25th August Masters Builders Northern Territory held their 2017 Excellence in Building and Construction Awards. All facets of the industry come together including Government officials, major industry representatives, contractors, architects, engineers and other industry professionals. To receive an accolade at this event is an achievement and Halikos Construction received seven awards for the New Henbury School!

Henbury School also won the People’s Choice category at the 2017 NT Architecture Awards.
Op Shop
THERE is no better way to relieve the guilt of retail therapy than the realisation your money is going towards a worthy cause.
And there is arguably no better place to spend some time during this week’s ¬National Op Shop Week than at Opportunity Knocks…our Op Shop.
The absolute top of the ops, Opportunity Knocks offers great but cheap outfits as Lauren Moss, our local MLA put to the test. Rachael, whose flair for fashion and her well- developed customer relations, supported Lauren in her choices as her personal shopper.
Rachael’s story is one of many successful Transition to Work narratives from Henbury School. Rachael is working towards completing her Certificate I in Retail and commenced work experience at Opportunity Knocks earlier this year. After successfully attaining work training goals, Rachael was offered a paid position at Opportunity Knocks on Saturdays. Rachael says “It’s busy, fun and has a friendly environment. I like how you can find anything and everything in the Op shop.”
Opportunity Knocks is located on Aralia Street in Nightcliff and is open Monday-Friday from 9am-3pm and Saturday 10am-3pm. Drop in and grab a bargain!

Greetings from Purple 4 Class
Term 3 is slipping by quickly with so many events and activities happening each week. Attending the Batchelor school camp in Week 3 was a great way to start the Term. Our class returned with lots of interesting recounts about their experiences. The Science Fair ended Week 4 with fun and informative experiments then cooking preparations for Family Night in the following week.
