ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Dear Parents/Carers
Welcome to the newsletter
Carolyn has been extra busy lately. Firstly attending a Special Education conference in Adelaide with Joan, our Science teacher. Both presented at the conference and all feedback from other jurisdictions has been very positive.
Secondly, Carolyn is currently attending the Department of Education Business days where Principals from all over Darwin and the Northern suburbs meet to discuss current issues and trends across education.
BBQ and Film Night
Wednesday June 13 is Family Film Night at Henbury!
The Year 12’s are fundraising for their Graduation night! There are 23 graduates this year, our biggest number yet. So, we need a bigger space and that costs more. The movie night in the Henbury hall on Wednesday 13th June starts at 6pm with a BBQ. The movie is Red Dog.
Bring your own tissues.
School Council
School Council will meet at 5pm Wednesday June 13 in the conference room. Hmmm, they could go straight from there to the BBQ and Film night!
Congratulations
Congratulations to Coral-Lee who received her Certificate I Retail through Charles Darwin University last night. Coral-Lee is currently in Year 12 at Henbury School and is completing her Certificate II Retail as well as working part-time at Henbury Op Shop - 'Opportunity Knocks' on the weekend.
Congratulation as well to our former students for receiving their certificates. Omri M – Cert I in Retail and Michael D – Cert I in Retail and Cert I in Food Processing.
NDIS
There is another NDIS information night being held at the Airport Hotel. Also on June 13th from 6pm -9pm.
Henbury School is beginning to get a lot of requests around filling out paperwork etc for our students. All relevant information can be found in your young person’s EAP or TEAP which you can also give to your Support Planner to help form your plans. Your GP or paediatrician can also provide more information.
Teachers and office staff cannot fill out those forms. We can provide copies of speech reports, psych reports etc if you have not kept your copies on file.
Private therapists are not able to access Henbury School. The Children’s Development Team and Office of Disability will still be supporting the students up to (and in some cases) beyond July 1st. Watch this space…as more information becomes available, we will advise you.

Greetings from Yellow 5
The students in Yellow 5 have had a busy and productive start to Term 2. Our Unit of Work on Responsibilities and Self Esteem encouraged the students to focus on their T/EAP goals and personal career paths. The Y5 students have been actively participating in various programs to compliment the topics discussed.
Scott has been busy with VETis courses this semester as well as being a mentor on campus during Skill Set sessions. This Term Scott completed his Bakery course and obtained his White Card. Ben has continued with his work training at the Royal Darwin Hospital Laundry and commenced a course in retail. Samantha is continuing with her Hair Salon Assistant VETis course. She is looking forward to putting her experience to the test at a local hairdressing salon. Caine has a keen interest in sewing and hairdressing. Mez has been an active member of the horticulture program. Tiler is looking forward to working at the OP shop again this Term and has an interest in pursuing retail. Kate and Amanda are both mentors in the Hairdressing Skill Set program. They assist with the work trainer and mentor other students - demonstrating their learnt skills from last Term.
We recently went on an excursion for Science with Joan and Sanderson Outreach to the Bureau of Meteorology. The students from Yellow 5 enjoyed the experience and learnt a lot of information along the way. Some Y5 students will be representing Henbury in the upcoming Climate Change Challenge so the new gained knowledge regarding weather was very beneficial indeed!

STAFF PROFILE
Hi! My name is Andrea White, I’m new to Henbury this year and am based at the CSC outreach. I completed a Master of Education with a major in Special Ed in 2013 and I’ve been teaching in Darwin for about five years. I am originally from the Philippines but all the kids think I’m American!
Highlights of this year so far have been, Coffee Crew Fridays, too many laughs at CSC and every single student I’ve met along the way.
CSC OUTREACH 1
NEW has been the theme of the year for Casuarina Senior College Outreach 1. New school, new classroom, new teacher and new students.
Year 12 students Dawyte and Jolina are working hard towards completing their Stage 2 NTCET subjects along with their VET and work experience commitments. Along with our SESO, Leanne Chalker, these two have been helping our NEW students navigate the CSC space.
NEW to the CSC Outreach class this year are our Year 10’s Andrew, Bradin and Nadia who are busy with VET courses, work experience, engaging with Clontarf AND completing their first year of the Modified NTCET program.
Last but not least, at the start of Term 2 we welcomed another NEW year 10 student to the fold, Jody!
