Parents/Carers of Students of Henbury and Nemarluk Schools
What: You are invited to attend a 6 hour training course for Management of Actual and Potential Aggression- MAPA®. This training is an accredited program that is a safe non-harmful behaviour management system designed to help parent/carers to provide the best care, welfare, safety and security of disruptive, assaultive and out of control individuals – even during their most violent moments.
This course will help to build your understanding of escalating behaviour and what you can do to help calm and de-escalate.
The Workshop will

- Understand the importance of and demonstrate how appropriate body language can reduce anxiety of a child and improve the safety for everyone.

Our Year 12s Gerry, Desbina, Jypsey and Jayden are spending the year getting ready to leave school at the end of the year and making preparations for organising their lives. They continue to move from strength to strength with Crewz’n Brew the Henbury coffee trailer which goes out into the community on regular visits. They are out on Work Experience visits and, for those who are eligible, completing their NTCET commitments.
As we write this newsletter Gerry is out on a week at CDU for his Retail 2 course and Jayden has a four day extensive Work Experience at a Hairdressing Shop. Desbina has finished her work at the Child Care Centre and had a few trial visits at McDonalds to see if she liked it. Gerry has finished his work Experience at Woolworths at Nightcliff. The Year 12s were also involved in doing the Drive Safe course to gain their Ls for driving.

SANDERSON MIDDLE OUTREACH
Wow what a great year so far! We have been ultra-busy learning about ourselves, our environment and where we are in the world. Some of our favourite learning areas are
- Shawn – Learning about the world and maps
- Alexander – BTN or Behind The News, because it gives you interesting facts
- Mickey – Art and using sensory equipment.
- Keanu – Doing Maths, it’s fun.
- Ali – Pop Art and drawing.
- Jaydon – Moving and using the sensory equipment.
We visit Henbury Campus on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s to access Skills Sets, Science, Human Growth and Development and community access. This means we need to be more organised on these days and pack what we need to take with us. It’s been a long process, but we think we’ve got the hang of it now.
Our weekly shopping trips are always eventful and give us the chance to negotiate and choose items we prefer to eat. It’s ok to have a treat occasionally, just not for every meal. We meal prep on Wednesdays making healthy lunches that we freeze in portion sized meals for use over the week. Everyone chips in and prepares the vegetables, meat and rice or pasta. Sometimes it’s difficult to wait for lunch as it smells so good.
We love our combined community access with DMS 1 each Thursday. Some of the great places we have explored include, mini golf, 16 Mile WW2 site, Bowling, Howards Springs Nature Park, Channel Island bridge and Power Station, Train Station, East Point and Parliament House.
We are looking forward to our holiday break to recharge and start a new term.
