Assistant Principal’s Report
Hello Parents and Carers,
We are more than halfway through the first term, and wow, has time gone fast!
T/EAP meetings
T/EAP meetings have finished this week, and reports on these will be sent out at the end of term. Thank you to all the parents and carers who have attended. It is important that we all work together for our students, to help them to achieve and be the very best they can be.
PHOTO DAY
School photo day will be on Thursday 14th March. Order envelopes were sent home last week. If you would like a replacement please contact the Front Office on 89977077 or let your child’s teacher know. Please also ensure that your child wears their Henbury or Outreach school shirt on photo day.
Notification of student absences
Please notify the school of any absences. Please note, where a child is absent from school for a period exceeding three days, a medical certificate must be provided.
Student update forms
It is important that we have current emergency contact details and medical information for all students. Student update forms will be sent home next week. Please check the information, make any necessary changes and send the forms back to school to be updated.
Back to School Vouchers
Voucher are valid until the end of Term 1. If you still have money left on your voucher or if you would like to know what your balance is please contact the front office on 89977077.
Attached below is a list on what the voucher can be spent on and a letter explaining the BTS voucher scheme.
Harmony Day
Harmony Day will be on again on 21 March. This year we are celebrating ALL the cultures at Henbury School. I think between the staff and the students, we cover most countries in the World! (I hope we’re having food!)
We are truly diverse! There will be something more about this later next week.
Learning Commissioners
Students from all classes today voted for 12 Learning Commissioners (old SRC) to represent them at interschool meetings, school council and at the NT Learning Commission. Six students will represent Years 10-12 and six students from Years 7-9. We’ll let you know the results as soon as possible.

PURPLE 3 HAVE BEEN SUPER BUSY
Purple 3 have had a super busy start to 2019!
Jayden, Leigh and Will have welcomed new students into our classroom this year. Heidi and Paul are our Year 7 students settling into High School. Paulo has joined us from next door in Purple 2 last year.
Purple 3 are so lucky to have Helen, Ted and Sarah as our SESOs to help us every step of the way. Classroom teacher Jane keeps us in tow!
We really enjoyed the Skills Set Tasters where we got to experience different work types. This year we’re participating in Skills Sets on Thursdays- Woodwork, Horticulture, SENSEational Designs and Hospitality. Jayden and Leigh play in Rising Stars Basketball on Fridays. We’ve started exploring Darwin by going bowling and to Nightcliff Jetty on Community Access.

HI FROM PURPLE 5
Hi from Purple 5 classroom! We have 6 energetic boys ranging from Year 7 to 9. During the first 5 weeks we have been getting to know each other, and working out how to work together as a team. We have started gymnastics lessons at Planet Tenpin, and Rising Stars basketball on Fridays. We went to East Point gun turret on Bombing of Darwin Commemoration day. We have a Therapy dog called Louie who comes to visit and play games. We are also learning about the planets, the seasons, telling time, shopping Maths and all about emotions and how to manage them.

TRACY’S, IVOR BURGE AUSTRALIA CHAMPIONSHIP EXPERIENCE
On Monday 11th February l flew to Canberra to train and play with the ACT Rising Stars Basketball team. l joined up with another NT girl called Naomi, and met the 12 other team mates from the Canberra region. We learnt about important skills for team play like lay ups, shooting and passing.
During the competition we played against teams from Victoria, NSW, SA and WA. With each game we improved and l felt proud of the way we played as a team. Our team worked so hard that we played in the bronze medal playoff game. We won the game so our team took home the bronze medal. We were happy and we celebrated by pouring water over our heads.
It was an exciting experience to play in the Ivor Burge Australian Junior Championship held at the Canberra Australian institute of sport.
Thank you to Sarah for organising the trip.
Tracy

NMS OUTREACH EXCURSION
On Tuesday 19th February NMS, Henbury Outreach class went to the bombing of Darwin Memorial at the Cenotaph.
This ceremony is important because we recognise the men and women who died and defended Darwin from Japanese bombing during the war between 1942 to 1943.
My favourite part of the Remembrance Day was when I walked with Brodie and other school representatives to the cenotaph. We held the wreath to show our respect to the men and women who died and defended Darwin NT Australia from Japanese bombing during World War 2. I was proud myself representing Nightcliff Middle School and Henbury School.

Tuesday 19th February we went to the bombing of Darwin. The ceremony was important so we don’t forget people died for our country as well as the millitary personnel that serve today. I enjoyed the shooting of the cannons & gun’s – Torie Cox
