YELLOW 2

Yellow Two has been busy doing all manner of exciting activities. We welcomed Thomas to our class and enjoy his "can do" attitude. For the Arafura Games; Our year 12's (Scott, Julio, Thomas) and Lorenzo (in year 11) did the "late shift" at the athletics one night; running the canteen with Felicity and Nim. It was exciting to see Lorenzo's cousin, Raelene achieve a Personal Best in the 800 metres!

We managed to see some Table Tennis and some Sepak Takraw; including Australia A defeating the Singapore Police and in the Women’s; the Philippines beaten by China. It was great to see such athleticism and the Australian Team allowed us to take a photo with them.

Sweet Treats was in full speed ahead in term one and we used some of our profit to buy lunch on our end of term excursion at Gateway Shopping Centre where we watched The Missing Link. The boys had a good time and Tina managed to not cry. Although tissues were ready.

Congratulations to Scott S for winning a trophy for best male bowler in his age group recently.

YELLOW 2 @ BRAVE

On the 29th of April. I went to the Darwin Entertainment Centre with other students from around Darwin. I watched the show called Brave by Slide Dance Company. The show was about a girl being brave dealing with bullying

At the show I didn’t like the kids bullying one girl. They were very mean to her. My favourite part was when the parents came to help her. We had a lot of talking about the movie when we go back to school.

SEMESTER ONE YELLOW 3 HIGHLIGHTS

Preparing for Post School - As senior students, Yellow 3 are carefully considering their future work options. Many of the Y3 students completed their Barista Skills Set course and are applying their skills at Coffee Crew and at the new Henbury on Aralia Café. Some students are also working on their Retail and Cookery certificates, and working in Animal Care and Aged Care.

Arafura Games – As part of their Modified NTCET English subject, students researched which countries were participating, types of sports and how to read event schedules. Students developed their communication skills first hand as they volunteered at the Table Tennis event.

Integrated Maths/Health Project – students researched the effects of sugar on their bodies and how to calculate the sugar content of different foods. They surveyed Yellow block students and staff about their favourite deserts and learnt to create graphs and how to interpret them.

Maths in the Kitchen – as we continue the Henbury Healthy Chefs lunch business the focus is on using measurement in the kitchen. Students are learning about fractions, units of measurement and using measurement equipment. Enjoying their meals at the end of cooking sessions is always a great incentive!

HELLO FROM DRIPSTONE MIDDLE SCHOOL 1

It has been a busy start to 2019. Everyone has been enjoying trying out the Electives here at Dripstone Middle School and with the Skill Sets at Henbury Campus. Some have also been working with the Gardening Crew and helping out with the Henbury Market.

NIGHTCLIFF MIDDLE SCHOOL OUTREACH

What an exciting week during the Arafura Games Week! NMS Outreach had the most amazing opportunity to be involved in three days of volunteering at three different sports. Brodie, Trinidey, Torie, Nakeya and Tracey stepped up to the challenge and became Canteen workers at the Athletics, Basket carriers at Swimming and Volleyball retrievers at the Beach Volleyball. Hands on work and volunteering skills were put to the test at the International Sporting event which has now become such an important and memorable lesson for NMS Outreach. A huge thanks to Felicity, Clontarf and each of the Arafura Games Sports coordinators for believing in us and allowing us to be part of this incredible lifelong educational experience. Thanks to Amanda Holt and DMS Students for provided extra support in numbers during the Beach Volleyball session. Trinidey and Torie have written their account of these special moments. Well done to everyone involved!

Arafura Games 2019

On Tuesday 7th of May 2019, the Nightcliff Middle School Outreach class went to Waterfront to help at the Beach Volley ball. The Beach Volleyball was played at the Waterfront, next to the Lagoon.

My favourite day was Friday spent at the Beach Volleyball because I was very excited to be the ball retriever. My job was the ball retriever, to grab the ball and pass it to the players when the ball goes out. When I got tired during the game or at half time another retriever would swap with me.

Another task given to our class was to keep track of the score on the score board. My best memory was changing the score board.

I think my role was important because spectators, teams and players at the back that can’t see the score board but with my help they can.

Arafura Games 2019

Monday the 29th April our class, NMS Outreach went to Marrara Athletic Stadium to volunteer at the Arafura Games.

My favourite day was Monday because we got to serve people. My first job was cooking & preparing. We cooked toasties then cut them in half and served them to the customer.

My second job was getting icy poles. I got the icy poles for the customers and cut the tops off.

My third job was handling the money. The customer’s would pay for their food and we would sort out the money into change.

Our role was important. So the customer’s don’t get hungry and leave.

It was great because I got to hang out with friends and watch the athletes running and compete in the sports.
