Principal’s Report
Parents and Carers
Term 2 ended with a great Assembly and Twilight Sports evening.
Twilight Sports/Family Night
This was the first Twilight Sports evening the school has had since 2015. The last time Twilight Sports happened on the site of Dripstone’s old AFL Oval, where the current Henbury School is now located. Around 170 people attended to cheer and participate in events. Blue Barras came 1st with 126 points, Uluru Dingoes 2nd with 117 and Green Crocodiles 3rd with 109 points. A big thank you to Rowan Barrow and her team of helpers who organised a fantastic event. Family Night, nearly everyone came back to school to enjoy dinner together. The weather was wonderful and just topped the evening off.
Thank you to Joan Ocampo and the Student Commissioners who also did a lot preparation and helped out at the events. They also ran the Assembly, well done everyone.

Humpty Doo Sports Day BBQ
Congratulate to the whole team who worked out at Humpty Doo Sports Day. It was a phenomenal effort from all staff and students.
From the BBQ and drink stall alone we raised over $900 for the Year 12 Graduation!!!! Felicity and Rod made over 100 coffees in the trailer before recess even started!
Thank you Felicity, Regina and Monique for being there early and setting up and feeding and watering the early birds. Thank you Carolyn for the use of your car after discovering a dead battery in the bus. Thank you Natalie for being a chef extraordinaire. Thank you Rod for your help marshalling kids, driving and having a go at being a mechanic!
And most importantly well done to the students who worked hard all day long:
Thomas, Jeremy, Bryony, Aaron, Nadia, Mickey, Michael, Alex, Banjo, Robbie, John

DHS OUTREACH
DHS Outreach has had an amazing first Semester. Aaron and Jack continued into Year 11 with Jack electing to do two courses at CDU – Computing and Kitchen operations. This sees Jack at CDU for three days a week. He is turning into an amazing chef. He is also keeping up with his workload in three subjects he is doing at DHS. Well done Jack!

Aaron is continuing his path towards getting his NTCET Modified Certificate by studying five subjects so far this year. He helped with the fit out of Henbury on Aralia and has been one of the Baristas for Term 2. He represented Henbury at the Sports Carnival in several sports and continues to assist the year 10s with mentoring them as needed. Aaron is also a member of the Crewz’n Brew team.

Aaron and Jack welcomed five Year 10s to DHS Outreach this year. They have assisted them with learning how to use the buses to get safely to and from Darwin High and Henbury. They have mentored the Year 10s with banking and shopping and learning how to work in both Café on Henbury and Henbury on Aralia.
Our Year 10s have done Bakery and are working through Retail 1 as well as doing 6 NTCET courses so far this year. The favourite task to date has been making a cake in our breadmaker as evidence that we could follow a procedure. Bryony, Jack, Willis, Kyle and Carter have also worked in Café on Henbury and Bryony, Willis, Kyle and Carter have had a term working in Henbury on Aralia. Willis also works in the Henbury Opportunity Knocks Op Shop.
Carter is our Learning Commission representative. Bryony has represented Henbury in sports.
Congratulations to our Year 10s who have made an excellent start to their Senior Years journey at Henbury. Thank you to Rod for being an amazing SESO.

GREETING FROM PURPLE 5
Greetings from Purple 5! We have been working hard to increase our independence by shopping at two different Coles stores during Term 2. We go to Northlakes in the school bus, or walk to Casuarina Village. This makes us read the signs in the shop, as everything is different.
On Tuesday afternoons, we join together with Purple 4 and have ukulele lessons with Julie and David. We are learning a song to present in Term 3 assembly.
In Skill Sets, Anastasios and Simaki have participated in making food and selling to customers. They helped to make pizza subs, mini quiches and frappes. Simaki worked on the cash register with David on one occasion. Hospitality was great!
A memorable community access visit was to the Botanical Gardens. We followed the signs to get to the dinosaur display.

All students competed in the event with pride, worked towards their best performances. BASKETBALL GRAND FINAL
Congratulations to the Rising Stars basketball teams on another successful Term. Thank you also to the fantastic teachers and SESO’s who continued to support and coach our students, teaching them to work together and support each other, and helping develop their skills. This is encouraging to watch. The grand final once again saw Purple Power versus Total Rec’s ‘Total Stars’, which is a team of adults. It was a rough and competitive game, with Total Stars taking the game very seriously. I thought the emphasis was taken off winning and being the best, by having all games continue during the grand-final. Well done to Roanin, Zac and Peter, who needed to work very hard, minus Trinidey, who is a valuable player. Roanin was the overall best player winner for this Term. We say goodbye to Manolis, Igen, Thomas, Patterson and Nathan who will be doing different things next Term.
There is still time to register for Term 3. Permission notes have been emailed out so please get them signed and back to me as soon as possible.

KEEPING UP WITH TECHNOLOGY
Working on the Cash Register for Café on Henbury is a very interesting job. Students learn all sorts of skills and really enjoy dealing with customers. We can now boast of being totally up to date as we have had our first Apple Watch transaction. You could have heard a pin drop as we waited for the transaction to go through.
