Principal’s Report
Parents/Carers
Welcome to Term Four!
It is a busy and exciting term starting with the review meetings for every student. Last term your child’s teacher would have contacted you about a time to meet. These meetings are an important part of the schools educational process. It is a time to celebrate achievements, make recommendations for 2020 and to ensure we have family input into your child’s education and wellbeing. School resources are focused to allow staff to attend these meetings so it is very important that if you can’t make your meeting time that you contact the school as soon as possible.
Halloween Disco
This Thursday is our annual Halloween Disco. We look forward to this event every year and encourage all families to dress up and get involved. Thank you to the staff who make this event possible. Nightcliff Middle School Outreach will be selling hotdogs and drinks.
A reminder to all parents that students are required to be supervised by a responsible adult during this event.
Staffing
Samantha Brannelley has won a position as Consultant National Assessment and Reporting. Samantha’s last day will be Friday 1 November. We would like to thank Samantha for the knowledge and experience she has bought to the school and wish her well in her new position. Sandra Landcaster who joined Henbury School as a relief teacher this year has agreed to take over from Samantha for the rest of the year.
School Council for 2020
Next year we will be losing two of our valued School Council representatives. I encourage those who may be interested in joining the School Council in 2020 to contact the school for more information. We have two meetings for the rest of the year. Please join us if you would like to know what these positions involve. Our next meeting is Wednesday 6 November at 5:00pm.
World Teachers’ Day Celebration
Friday 25 October was World Teachers’ Day. Staff enjoyed, cupcakes, coffee, travel mugs and new furniture in the staff wellbeing courtyard. Thank you to all our staff including teachers, support staff, administration staff and maintenance staff who work together to provide a positive environment for our students.
Thank you also to Lauren Moss, Member for Casuarina for the delicious cupcakes and for acknowledging our staff on World Teachers’ Day.
Kids Teaching Kids
Representatives from our Henbury Learning Commissioners are in Melbourne this week at the Kids Teaching Kids conference. They will be opening the event by signing the Australian Anthem. We look forward to hearing about their trip when they return later this week. Thank you Joan, Maddison and Freddy who are supporting our students during their trip.
10th Annual Henbury Corporate Luncheon
Our major fundraising event is coming up on Friday 6 December. Without the funds from the last 9 events, Henbury School would not be able to afford the extra equipment and programs the school provides. You can support this event in many ways including attending the event, donating a prize for a raffle or auction item or purchasing a raffle ticket. Raffle tickets will be available from the front office in the week leading up to the event. A huge thank you to Raylee Parker, Lauren Hofmeyer and the team behind this event. These staff members go above and beyond to make this massive event happen for the benefit of our students.
Autism Luncheon
Last weekend staff represented Henbury School at the Autism Luncheon. A great organisation who supports many of our families at Henbury School. To find out more about Autism NT contact them through their website - autismnt.org.au. The school donated a voucher for a High Tea for Ten people at Henbury on Aralia. We look forward to spoiling the lucky people who purchased this prize. If you would like to hold a High Tea with your friends or family please email henbury.aralia@ntschools.net. It would be a great Christmas gift!
Henbury Art Exhibition
Next Friday the 8 November is our annual Art Exhibition which will be held in the school hall. This will run from 9:30 to 10:30am. Henbury Café will be operating during the exhibition.
AFL TRAINING @ HENBURY
Natalie Althouse our school counsellor will be conduction free AFL training sessions for students every Tuesday. Start time is 2:45-4pm. Students need to be picked up promptly at 4pm if parents have not organised for them to go to SR@H. If you would like your child to attend these sessions please contact Natalie on 89977077.

HELLO & HAPPY TERM 4 FROM BLUE 1
It has been a busy start to the new term for Blue 1. We have been working hard to complete our unit on plants; looking after our flowers, planting chive seeds and documenting their growth. Blue 1 has also been actively participating in extracurricular activities such as Skill Set on Thursday’s, bucket drumming, choir as well as Jam Session.
These activities allow us to work alongside other students and use our communication skills to interact and participate Every second Monday we have been getting a visit from Harlow the therapy dog Faye especially enjoys these visits.
During Term 3 we participated in the rocket making contest for the Science Fair and came second place, we were all very proud of our team effort in creating this Rocket.
We are still going out in the community on Friday mornings during Community Access, we particularly enjoy going to Coffee Club at the Waterfront to treat ourselves to some chips.
This term we will be keeping busy finishing off our plant unit and looking at our achievements and growth from the year.
GREEN 1
Green 1 Class Activities 2019
Mikaylah, Honor, Debbie, Keira and James work together to make lunch once or twice a week using bought and farm grown ingredients. They have been getting more confident making cooked food and cold drinks too.

Vince’s art class on Tuesdays has been really creative. Students have made papier-mâché animals and Keira has helped to create her favourite “Animal Ride” truck from Playschool. They made a Green screen movie for their Term 3 Assembly item which was enjoyed by all.
Swimming on Friday has been successful in getting all of Green 1 moving and learning water safety.
