Assistant Principal’s Report

Dear Parents/Carers

The year is quickly coming to an end. I would like to thank staff for all the hard work happening this Term.

Loud Shirt Day

On Thursday 14 November staff and students turned the campus into a sea of colour by putting on their loudest shirts in order to raise money for this year’s graduation dinner and to support children who have hearing disabilities. $120 was raised. It was great to see so many get dressed up for the cause.

YELLOW 3

Our class, Henbury Healthy Chefs, hosted a meal for 15 guests. We served 3 courses; Chicken and sweet corn soup, Beef taco salad and Toblerone cheesecake slice.

We all planned it together, invited our guests, did the shopping and cooked. Here are some of our reflections:

Melissa and Kimberley: “We enjoyed making the chicken and sweet corn soup. It was delicious and tastier than our practise meal.”
Kate: “We worked really well together when we made the Beef taco salad.”
Malakai: “The salad looked colourful and delicious.”
Melissa: “The Toblerone cheesecake slice looked spectacular and I was pleased.”
Jeffrey: “We each bought the things on our list and compared brands.”
Melissa: “The set up was awesome, it reminded me of Sky City Casino in Darwin.”

Our guests really enjoyed our lunch, some of the comments we got on our feedback forms were:

“It was 10/10, wonderful work yellow 3”
“I enjoyed how special you all made me feel. I loved the cheesecake the most”
“Everything tasted amazing”
“My host was very polite, friendly and welcoming”
“The meal was beautifully presented with lovely manners”
“The thing I enjoyed most was the joy in the children’s delivery”

YELLOW 5

The end of the year is fast approaching and Yellow 5 students are busy with their weekly programs and finishing projects in time for the holiday break. Students have been working on focused on Road Safety, Creative Writing, Rock and Water, Bus Training/Reading timetables, Personal Grooming, Handwriting, Touch Typing, Grammar, Money Math, Regulating Emotions and work training.

Yellow 5 students have been working on a Unit of Work this semester called Road Safety. Mel and Caleb from Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics visited our class and spoke to us about Keeping Safe on Territory Roads and discussed the Towards Zero program. The group discussed many areas on the topic including crossing the road; wearing seatbelts; wearing helmets; public transport; the dangers associated with not following the rules, children’s/zebra crossings etc.

Several weeks later Yellow 4 joined us on our excursion to the Road Safety Centre in Parap. The excursion was divided into two parts – theory and practice. The presenters talked about road signs, traffic lights, bikes, road laws and helmets among other things. The students were able to answer many of the questions thanks to their learnt knowledge from school. Then the student put their learning to the test and went for a ride in the Road Safety Centre grounds. The students have a marvellous time!

If any families are interested in going, we highly recommend it. Bookings can be made during for the dry season.

EXPRESSION OF INTEREST - MY GOV DIGITAL SUPPORT SESSION

Centrelink has offered to come to the school to host a My Gov Digital Support Session. During this session demonstrations and assistance will be given on how to access and use your My Gov accounts.

This will be a very helpful session as Centrelink, and other connected services, move more and more towards electronic procedures.

This is chance to ask questions and get help around using your My Gov account to apply and manage things such as Disability Support Pension, Carer’s Allowance, Mobility Allowance etc online.

Participating families need to provide their own device (laptop, iPad, smart phone) in order to login to their My Gov account during the session. If this is not possible, a limited amount of school laptops will be available.

Once Expressions of Interest are returned a date and time for the session will be advised for early Term One.

Please advise the school by Friday 6th December if you are interested in attending by contacting the front office – 8997 7077. Notes have also been sent home.
