SENIOR TEACHER’S REPORT
It’s hard to believe we are halfway through Term 2!
Thank you to our fabulous students and staff for persisting through trying times.
Testament to our school’s collaborative culture is our new #fridayfeels movement! Each week classes have the opportunity to showcase their efforts in collaboration with other classes. This week Purple 4 and 5 shared photos of their joint research project lessons. Check out the level of engagement!

Year 12 TEAPs
This week, Year 12 TEAPs will be taking place. This is a wonderful opportunity for families, students and staff to celebrate the work of students and coordinate valuable transition from school processes.
All Abilities Netball Expression of Interest
The All Abilities Netball Tournament, has run since 2018, is hosted by Darwin Netball Association, and is held at Marrara Netball courts on Thursday nights. This is an out of school program - parents/carers are responsible for transport, supervision and duty of care during the games and other associated events. Henbury staff Raylee Parker and Amanda Thomas help to coordinate and coach the Banks Bulldogs team, which is made up of primarily present and past Henbury students.
We have received tentative information from Darwin Netball Association that this year’s tournament may commence in July and run for a short season. We are yet to receive any further details regarding dates or how the games will run in light of COVID19 health and safety criteria.
If you are interested in your child playing please contact the school or send an email to raylee.parker@ntschools.net or amanda.thomas@ntschools.net as soon as possible. This will give them an idea of how many teams we may need to formulate.
Henbury on Aralia
Make sure to keep an eye on our Facebook page for the reopening of Henbury on Aralia. Students and staff are busily preparing for our eventual reopening.

Year 6 Transition to Henbury School
I am already well underway with transition for Year 6 students from Nemarluk and a number of mainstream schools in our catchment area. We are looking forward to welcoming approximately 24 new faces to the Henbury School community for 2021. We will begin with some visits to our campus in Term 2 and 3, with students entering classrooms in Term 4.

- attend planning for a student’s individual learning plan
- attend meetings to monitor and tailor the support provided to a student
- provide training/professional learning to school staff on school grounds
- provide support with the management of assistive technology such as standing frames or communication devices.
Relevant paperwork needs to be completed and returned to lauren.hofmeyer@ntschools.net

YELLOW 4
We have had a great start to 2020 in Yellow 4!
Yellow 4 have enjoyed participating in Zumba lessons on Mondays. Students are developing fitness, dance skills and creating hobbies and interests they can further pursue outside of school if they choose. Yellow 4 display stamina and grit during their 1 hour dance classes. Positive feedback is shared each week in regards to their participation.

We also look forward to our fortnightly visits from the therapy dogs, Scout and Halo. Yellow 4 students learn and practise tricks with the dogs and enjoy catch up cuddles. The dogs are extremely patient and are a source of regulation for some students.

Healthy food and balanced meals are strongly encouraged. Students understand the importance of pairing their meals with healthy fresh produce, good fats, carbs and protein.
SCHOLASTIC BOOK CLUB
Scholastics book club issue 4 has been sent home to parents. You can order online or return your forms and money back to school. Closing date for this issue is June 12.
HELLO FROM YELLOW 5 MOB
The students of Y5 have had a busy start to the year. This year we welcomed back Caine, Banjo, Aidan, Thomas, Sebastian and Jai along with Paul who started his first year at Henbury.
Yellow 5 have been working on an Integrated Unit of Work entitled ‘All About Me’ and ‘Healthy Lifestyles’. Last term the students had been going to the gym once a week with Yellow 2. We thoroughly enjoyed these sessions and were very disappointed when we could no longer attend due to COVID-19. Y5 decided to plan and create our own fitness program as an alternative. The students participated in several physical activities and games including stretches, sprinting, racing, jumping, aerial tricks on the trampoline, obstacle courses on the playground equipment, dance and bike riding.
Y5 students cook a healthy meal from scratch every week and enjoy experimenting with classic recipes. They make sure to add plenty of fruit and vegetables to their weekly menu.
We have also been discussing emotions and the importance of mental health and personal wellbeing in our day to day lives. Group discussions have helped the students and staff to get to know each other more - creating a lovely bond between the classroom members.

HUMP DAY DISCO
On Wednesday, students and staff had the opportunity to participate in a Hump Day Disco in the school hall. Supervision was provided, social distancing maintained where applicable and hand sanitiser made available.
Thank you to Yellow 2 and 3 for their organisation of this event as part of the NTCET Modified PLP class.

CSC OUTREACH
This Term (year) has been an interesting one with lots of changes and new experiences for us all. As a class we are settling into a good rhythm of learning and developing great friendships. Although we are two classes at CSC, we do mix a lot for different subjects and activities. We are all busy working towards our goals and completing work for our NTCET Modified. We also like to take breaks, get active and breathe in the fresh air. Especially now with this glorious dry season weather.
Here are a few photo shots of us enjoying the outdoors.
