ASSISTANT PRICIPAL’S REPORT
Dear Parents/Carers
It is hard to believe that we are already part way through August! The dry season is coming to an end and we are starting to experience some humid weather. Please remind all students to stay hydrated as the temperature increases.
Transition
There have been lots of exciting things happening this term with the transition program for Year 6 students well underway. Students from Nemarluk and surrounding schools enjoyed visiting our campus café on Tuesday for a treat and frappe, made by our incredible Skill Sets students. Year 6 students will be starting in Henbury classes from next week, building up to a full day as the semester continues.
Our Year 9 Outreach students will also begin their transition process, visiting Casuarina Senior College and Darwin High Outreach classes. The transition will include campus tours, participating in the Balanced Choice Program and joining current Outreach students in a variety of lessons and learning opportunities. This transition process will continue for the remainder of the year.
Restorative Practices
During our Term Three start up day, myself and Lauren Hofmeyer delivered professional development to all staff about Restorative Practices. This approach aims to build community and address issues as they arise with a focus on repairing relationships and working collaboratively to identify ways forward. As the term progresses we will be developing a curriculum to be delivered during Social and Emotional Learning lessons, in addition to classroom and parent resources.
Science Week
Science Week runs from 17th to 21st August and will culminate in a Science Day held on Henbury campus, Thursday 20th August. We thank Carol Ayers and Learning Commission students for their time and effort in co-ordinating this event.
T/EAP Reviews
Just a reminder that we are trialling holding our Transition / Educational Adjustment Plan review meetings in Term Three. These meetings are scheduled to occur from 1st September over four weeks. Teachers will contact you in regards to a suitable time. It is important to invite all relevant stakeholders to these meetings, so please advise your child’s teacher if you require additional attendees.
‘Hump Week’ Disco
Our discoes are always a favourite with students and staff alike! On Wednesday we will be holding a ‘hump day’, ‘hump week’ disco from 1.30-2.15. This event is not open to the community.
School Survey
This year’s school survey is now open! It is an excellent opportunity for parents and carers, students and staff to provide valuable feedback to our leadership team. This assists us with ensuring the school engages in best practices across the full scope of our work.

BLUE 3
Blue 3 have joined forces with Blue 4 to become one classroom.
Everyone is working on developing their communication skills, working well with each other during class activities and especially in the yard.
We have continued to develp our math and literacy skills , care and compassion.
The one thing that all students enjoy is Friday’s Rising Stars Basketball competition. So much so that they want to practice their basketball skills during their free-time!

BLUE 9
“Diversity is being invited to the party, inclusion is being asked to dance” – Verna Myers
“Buddy Cooking” has been an integral part of Blue 9’s communication program. It’s been a pleasure welcoming outreach and yellow block students into our classrooms! We’ve learned new names, worked with new faces and even made a friend or two. It’s also been a sensory experience, smelling, tasting, crunching, pouring and making an epic mess!
We’ve enjoyed eating new meals like, cauliflower bake, kale and purple cabbage stir fry and cheesy chicken casserole. Being included in the process has been the most magical part.

IMMUNISATION PROGRAM
The 2nd round of the school based immunisation program is currently scheduled to run between 31st August and 18th September 2020 in all middle schools. Specific dates are to be confirmed. The program is offered to students attending Year 7, 9 & 10. For any student to receive vaccination a valid consent form must be returned. No student can be vaccinated without legal consent.
Please contact Henbury school nurse Janine Kelsey for enquires 89977077.

ALL ABILITIES NETBALL TOURNAMENT
The All Abilities Netball Tournament kicked off last week with nearly 20 Henbury and ex-Henbury players involved!
The excitement was palpable as the players caught up with old friends, put on their uniforms and ran around on the court! The amount of sportsmanship, resilience and improvement from last year was fantastic to see. Debbie in particular blew us away! Bryony and Agnes made formidable shooters in the ring and Melissa came down to be our score keeper.
Falcons Club have joined the competition thanks to Sarah C and Mia. It is great that the competition has expanded to include three clubs!
If you want to come and check it out and get some #thursdaynitefeels... please do ... first game is 6pm at Marrara, court 1, every Thursday.

NIGHTCLIFF MIDDLE SCHOOL BIRDWATCHING DATA
Last term NMS students started birdwatching at both Henbury and NMS Outreach. We put together a date page and each student had a sheet so that they could colour in their own bar graph using the data. Trinidey then transferred this data to a pie graph.
Our class will be joining in the Birdcount from the – 19th 25th to the October.
