PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
We have a lot to celebrate as Term Three comes to an end. Thank you to all the staff who continue to show dedication and commitment to making Henbury School a specialist school of excellence. To our amazing students who demonstrate our school values of respect, responsibility, resilience, compassion and teamwork every day, thank you!
This term, we completed the T/EAP, (Transition/ Educational Adjustment Plan) review meetings for each student. Thank you to all the parents/carers who attended these meetings. Your input is invaluable to the continuity between school and home and to ensuring the best educational outcomes for our young people.
It was such a pleasure to have all our classes attend our whole school assembly in Week Ten. Congratulations to our Learning Commissioners who expertly led their first assembly in the hall for the year. It was very efficient and engaging with performances from our well-rehearsed ‘Bucket Drummers’ and an amazing solo vocal and dance performance by Enrique. Well done to our staff Amanda and Dave who supported the smooth running of the assembly.
The following students were chosen for a Henbury School VALUES award:

Please find the details of our ‘5 Days of Christmas’ and how you can be involved following in this newsletter. Don’t forget to like our HCL Facebook page.

AUSTRALIAN SPECIAL EDUCATION PRINCIPAL’S ASSOCIATION (ASEPA) SURVEY
You are invited to participate in the research project jointly conducted by the Australian Special Education Principal’s Association (ASEPA) and the Australian Catholic University (ACU). The study is commissioned by the ASEPA, the peak body for school leaders of specialist schools across Australia. This project is being conducted by Professor Tania Aspland, Dean, Education Policy and Strategy at North Sydney, ACU. She provides high-level advice on teacher education, governance and policy.
The research project investigates the differential perspectives of families of students with disabilities (SWD) and their children in Australian specialist schools and to highlight measures by which such voices might be more included. The study is integral to elucidating meaningful engagement between families and educational providers in determining appropriate educational experiences for students with disabilities.
Participation in this study is completely voluntary. You are not under any obligation to participate. If you agree to participate, you can withdraw (abstain from completing the survey) from the study at any time without adverse consequences. Please note, however, that return of the non-identifiable survey is consent to participate and that responses cannot be withdrawn once complete as they are not identifiable. Moreover, you cannot withdraw your participation after the data has been coded as individual responses will not be able to be identified and thus will not be able to be removed from the dataset.
Complete details of the study are provided in the attachment entitled ‘Information Letter (Participants)’. Please make sure you read the document before proceeding to take the survey. If you have any questions about the research study, please contact Professor Tania Aspland at Tania.Aspland@acu.edu.au.
The survey begins with your informed consent by noting:
“I have read (or, where appropriate, have had read to me) and understood the information provided in the ‘Information Letter (Participants)’. Any questions I have asked have been answered to my satisfaction. I agree to participate in the survey entitled ‘Parent Satisfaction in Specialist Schools in Australia’, realising that I can withdraw my consent at any time (without adverse consequences). I agree that research data collected for the study may be published or may be provided to other researchers in a form that does not identify me in any way. In view of the above, I consent to take part in the survey – Yes/No”.
If you would like to participate in this research and consent, please complete the 10-minute survey, the link of which, is available at the link below:

DMS1 OUTREACH NEWS
Hello from Dripstone Outreach. It has been great being back on our campus but some of us still miss the fun stuff at Henbury like friends and bike riding. We have had visitors running the Deadly Choices program to learn about drugs, being safe and healthy eating. They played games with us to show us an active lifestyle. We have also been doing our nutrition program where we learn money maths, kitchen safety and cooking skills. Some students have been doing subjects at Dripstone including; Art, PE, ICT and Clontarf. We are also welcoming our transitioning students for next year as they visit us weekly.

HAPPY END OF TERM 3 FROM YELLOW 2
This year has certainly been a busy one for us! As we start to wind down towards the end of the year we continue to develop our work skills and build on our team working skills.
We have been getting out in the community every Tuesday and really enjoying walking around and seeing different places like the Street Art Exhibition in the city, sometimes even getting lunch while we are out.

We are beginning to complete our final tasks for the MNTCET which means Malakai has been cooking up a storm for us each week to help develop his cooking skills.
On Tuesday we had our first whole school assembly for the year and Enrique was lucky enough to get the opportunity to Perform the song Wildflower by 5SOS, we are all so proud of his performance.
This term has been one of our busiest, we are looking forward to the two week break before term 4.
Have a safe holiday.
HENBURY YOUNG REPORTER FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
Our ‘Henbury Young Reporters for the Environment’ are in the process of submitting this photo in to the ‘Young Reporters’ competition. They are highlighting the impact plastics and rubbish is having on the animals that live in the ocean.
YELLOW 3’S NEWS
This Term Yellow 3 have been on Community Access to Casuarina Square to have lunch and buy new things for our quiet room, Casuarina Library to borrow books, Café Central for Lunch, the Territory Wildlife Park to collect data for Maths, and the Esplanade playground where Kyle conquered his fears and climbed to the top of the rope tower.
When we went to the Territory Wildlife Park we collected data about cars on the road, animals and how many people complained on the day. We turned the data into graphs and analysed them in maths.

Yellow 3 have been to Elemental Gymnastics on Wednesday afternoons with our amazing SESO Monique. We have learnt that each week we need to warm up, practice a skill and land correctly. We practiced tuck jumps, star jumps, quarter turns, half turns, pike jumps, and even trying cartwheels.

In other news… Kyle got his P plates last week, Tiler got a job at HOA, Melissa continues to work at HOA, Jeffrey has been working at HPA, Emily has been going to Animal Studies at Taminmin, Tiler has been trying out Darwin High School and Bryony has joined us on campus.

NIGHTCLIFF AND DRIPSTONE OUTREACH’S PUDAKUL EXCURSION
In Week 10, Term 3, the NMS and DMS 2 classes combined to visit the Aboriginal and Cultural Tour – Pudakul. The wonderful staff welcomed the students with washing with traditional waters, then guided the group through the bush to point out the various bush food and medicine plants on the Limilngan and Wulna Lands. The students listened to stories of local culture and lore, then participated in spear throwing and weaving pandanus. All students gained a wealth of knowledge, shared their own storied and finished off the excursion with some well earned damper. A huge thanks to the operators at Pudakul, we totally recommend this tour.
