PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Welcome to Term Four!
Thank you to parents and carers who attended student EAP (Educational Adjustment Plan) review meetings at the end of last term. These reports along with the academic Semester Two progress reports will go home with students in the final week of school. I had the pleasure of sitting in on some meetings and celebrating student progression towards their goals. It is a very valuable time to connect with parents and carers and to make recommendations for 2021.
Our transition program is well on the way with students visiting weekly from a variety of other primary schools as well as internal transitions for students moving to and from our outreach campus. We have paid special attention this year to students on campus who struggle with change and have identified these students for an on campus transition to their 2021 classroom. We are hopeful that these extra measures will further increase a smooth start to 2021.
A lot of thought goes into creating classes to best suit the learning, social and emotional needs of each student. We appreciate feedback from parents and also take that into consideration. Staff are continuing to work on 2021 classes as we collect new information during our transition process. The final class lists will go home with student reports at the end of the term.
This week we will be showcasing our amazing staff, students and school to the School Review Team. We are looking forward to receiving their feedback and recommendations that will support us in writing our four year Strategic School Plan. Thank you to the parents who are giving up their time to meet with the review team.
This Friday we will be hosting Her Honour the Honourable Vicki O’Halloran AO, Administrator of the Northern Territory for the morning. Her Honour will be treated to a tour of our school, will participate in the first raising of our school flags on our newly installed flag poles and will join Café on Henbury for morning tea. We look forward to sharing with Her Honour the many programs we offer at our school.
New undercover area and court
The project to build the permanent shade structure which will be the size of a ½ basketball court has been awarded to NS Constructions. It will be situated on the grassed area that runs along Henbury Avenue. The works will commence next month. We look forward to having this multi-purpose area that can be utilised by all students.
Special needs transport
The ‘2021 continuation of bus services forms’ have been sent home with the students that are currently using the special needs buses.
Please note that students that are transitioning to CSC or Darwin High will not be given the form as there is no special needs buses operating at these outreach classes.
Forms are to be returned back to school by Friday 27th November.
If you are currently not using this service and would like to put in an application for 2021, please contact David Panjer at the school or email david.panjer@ntschools.net.
2020 Toyota AFL National Volunteer of the year award
A big congratulations to Natalie Althouse our school councillor for winning the AFL Diversity National Ambassador of the year award. This awards recognises the outstanding work of a volunteer that has been able to promote inclusion for multi-cultural and/or indigenous communities in Australian Rules football. Natalie won the NT Volunteer award in 2019 and has now achieved this national award in 2020. As part of her volunteer work she ran after school football clinics for our students who were not selected to compete in the AFL inclusion carnival. We are so very proud of her! We surprised her this morning by decorating her office in celebration.
Don’t forget this Thursday evening is the Halloween Disco. I hope you have your costumes ready and your dancing feet on for another great event. See attached flyer for more details.

HI FROM DHS OUTREACH
We are busy finishing off our tasks for our Northern Territory Certificate of Education Modified. Over the school holidays, John volunteered at Henbury on Aralia and celebrated his 17th birthday. Jack got up really early both Mondays to do work experience at Yogi’s Way Café, as well as working at the Darwin Convention Centre on two days. Well done, Jack.

Jack and Aaron both have birthdays this month as well. Tahliyah is finishing the two VSS courses she has been doing at Marrara and CDU and she and Nadia have taken advantage of the wonderful School House program. Willis completed a Meat Retailing Course and was commended by the lecturer for his great work effort and his positive effect on the other students. Willis and John have been working on the Manufacturing Skill Set all year. DHS - Willis Manufacturing,

Rod and I are very proud of what our students have been able to do this year. We have all breathed a sigh of relief that we made the deadline for our Certificate 2 retail course. We continue to work in Henbury on Aralia each Friday with some of us doing paid work on weekends in the Opportunity Knocks – the Henbury Op Shop. We thank the people who assisted us to get our Barista Certificates this year, especially Felicity, Tahnee, Fleur and Rod who mentor us at Henbury on Aralia. John and Willis manage to fit in guitar lessons with Rod as part of our wonderful Henbury Performing Arts.
Several students are doing driving lessons with the aim of getting their Ps in the future.
Our Year 12s, Tahliyah and Jack are just about ready to leave and have spent the year getting organized for life after school and job hunting.
We have been busy, busy, busy. To quote Willis again: “We are DHS Outreach and we work, work, work.” We have students coming to our class as part of the transition program for next year. We will welcome Moise, Ali, Tiler and Ashley.

SANDERSON MIDDLE SCHOOL
The students have been visiting Henbury on Aralia for morning tea or lunch this semester and have been enjoying going for a visit and having something to eat. As part of our English lesson we have been reflecting on different things that we have done, these are the student’s reflections on visiting HOA.

I went to HOA on the little School bus every Thursday. I order at HOA one scone and cost $10. The chocolate frappe taste good and the scone too.
By Jack
On Thursday my classmates, teachers and myself went to HOA. At HOA I order a hot chocolate and a peanut butter caramel slice for morning tea. I use $8 to buy the correct items and I use my manners. After that I enjoyed eating my morning tea and chatting with my friends. I had a great time.
HOA stands for…
H is for Henbury
O is for On
A is for Aralia
By Shawn
On Thursday after recess we caught the school bus to HOA. Then we ordered food and a drink. I got a scone with jam and cream and a mocha. Then the boyz and I had a good talk.
By Ethan

We get there on the bus and get inside the shop. You can get food there, I get scones and chocolate frappe. I like the food.
