SENIOR TEACHER’S REPORT
Parents/Guardians
A big hello to all who comprise the Henbury School community. Term 4 is well and truly in motion with some very important events coming up.
We welcome Amy Taylor to our team at Casuarina Outreach with the departure on Leizl Mowbray at the end of last term. Sadly we will also be saying good-bye to Cam Lobos at Dripstone Outreach at the end of week 5 when he leaves to travel interstate. We are very lucky to replace Cam with Matthew Vaughan. Matthew has already started with us which has enabled ample time for a smooth hand over to occur.
Reports
It’s a big term for reporting. Semester and T/EAP reports will go home with students in the last week of school. Whilst being part of review meetings and reading student reports it has been great to see our students making progress with their learning and celebrating in their success.
Halloween Disco
Our annual Halloween disco occurred last Thursday with a fantastic turn out. Students dressed up in their scariest outfits and danced the night away to their favorite tunes. Parents and carers enjoyed the atmosphere and there was also a BBQ dinner during the event.

School Review
Last week Henbury School had its School Review. The review was led by ACER School Review consultant Trevor Gordon and Principals Julie Perry and Lorraine Evans from the NT Department of Education. We were also fortunate to have system leader Sheina Treuel who has had extensive experience as a Special Education Principal. The school was provided with commendations, affirmations and recommendations that will influence the school strategic plan for the next 4 years. We will share this feedback with you when we are provided with the final report.
Swim Teacher Rescue
A special shout out to our NMS teacher Rowan Barrow for running the Teacher Swim Rescue Award for our staff. This will ensure that all staff are trained in safety procedures in the pool.
Melbourne Cup
The Melbourne Cup Day luncheon spread was amazing. Thank you to Natalie and Janine for organising it. Our staff thoroughly enjoy it!

Senior Teacher
HI FROM PURPLE 4 & 5!
Both classes are now coming together for all literacy and numeracy lessons. Working together has enabled our students to be better challenged at their own ability levels in English, and maths classes. Semester 2 has been a full and busy time with some new programs introduced including reading groups on a Friday, which are specifically planned to foster a love of literature. In their ability groups students enjoy listening to different novels a chapter at a time and drawing their understanding in pictures, then orally presenting their work back to both classes.
Excursions
For community access visits in Term 3 we visited a range of interesting locations including the Aviation Museum, The Museum of Arts and Sciences and the East Pt Military Museum. During these visits, students decided on an area of interest which they would like to research further in the next day’s literacy lesson. Learning to effectively research their topics of interest through Google searches was the major goal of the research projects.
We continued with Rising Stars on Fridays, and enjoyed barracking for our favourite Henbury teams.

Administrator Visit
What a great way to end week 3 with the celebration of World Teachers’ Day! We had a visit by the Honourable Vicki O’Halloran AO, Administrator of the Northern Territory. Our Learning Commissioners led Her Honour on a tour of our beautiful school. With our new flag poles going in during the holidays, Her Honour joined us for our first flag raising ceremony. Enrique made us proud when he led the singing of the national anthem.

World Teachers’ Day
Last Friday 30th we celebrated World Teachers’ day. Each and every one of our teachers play a pivotal part in the education of our students.
All our staff received a gift which is around us all sharing the responsibility of communication with all our students. This has come from the work the NT Learning Commission team have been doing with whole school communication boards to support every child having a voice.
Staff also received a free coffee/treat from our café.
Thank you once again to Lauren Moss MLA for dropping of some tasty treats for our dedicated staff.
Lauren has also gifted our school with 2 beautiful books – 2021 World Guinness Book of Records and the latest Ripley’s Believe it or Not. We’ll get these into the library for all students to enjoy.
