SENIOR TEACHER REPORT
Can you believe it is Week 6, Term 4?
Despite the hot and humid weather, students have continued to successfully engage in classroom programs. Staff are ensuring students and themselves, stay hydrated and as cool as possible!
We have had some exciting events happening this week:
GRADUATION
We will be formally celebrating the successes of our Year 12 students on Thursday 26th November. This year’s event will be held at the Hilton.
Keep an eye out in the next newsletter for photos of students in their suits and frocks!
ART EXHIBITION
The grand opening of the annual Henbury School Art exhibition is Friday 20th November. We can’t wait to see the amazing student creations and hope you can join us to for something to eat and drink at the café, followed by a tour of the gallery!
Thank you to Michael M and Chiara G for their artworks which were used on the poster. We have some very talented young artists in our midst!
Northern Territory Certificate of Education and Training Modified (NTCETM) MODERATION
Last Friday, our NTCETM teachers underwent internal moderation. This was a great success and will continue to ensure high quality programs are delivered to Senior Years students.
The hard work of students, teachers and SESO’s has resulted in the highest number of passed results since Henbury School began the NTCETM journey.
BAKE OFF
Tuesday 17th November, was the inaugural Henbury Home Bake-Off for staff! Winners were grinners: In first place was Annemarie with her luscious lemon meringue pie, second was Helen’s ba-mazing banana cake, and third was Jess and Bryony with their delicious donuts! We are already looking forward to next year!
A huge thank you to Jane Mercer for coordinating! There were lots of smiling faces in the staffroom!

DARWIN REGION SCHOOL SPORT 3x3 BASKETBALL
Henbury School students participated in the 2020 Darwin Region 3 on 3 basketball competition held at Marrara this year. Three teams were entered with two girls teams and one boy team. Henbury Students competed against main stream schools from all over the Darwin region. Our students flourished in the competitive environment with one of the girls teams (Tracey, Narvia and Agnes) placing 3rd in their pool of 9 teams. Students were also tasked with rostered duties, requiring them to score and referee games. The day was a huge success with lots of fun and laughs. We can’t wait for 2021!

YELLOW 4
Yellow 4 has two students graduating at the end of the year. Celebrations have already commenced, including 18th birthday parties for them both! We’re still continuing with our regular programs but also starting to wind down with several bus excursions and end of year celebrations to prepare for.
Some highlights for Yellow 4 students in 2020 would be the school house, therapy dog visits, HPA PEG program, work training and Henbury Café. The students have continued to gain and develop work skills in all of these amazing Henbury School enterprises.
Best wishes to our year 12 students, Hugo and Rosie next year in 2021.

YELLOW 5
The end of the year is fast approaching and Yellow 5 students are busy with their weekly programs and finishing projects in time for the holiday break. Students have been focusing on their life-skills training and work experience this semester and enriching their knowledge in these placements.
The students and staff in Yellow 5 look forward to Thursdays when they go on community access excursions. They have travelled to various places over the last few months. Students purchase their own lunches on these outings and actively demonstrate their knowledge of money and budgeting. This end of week treat is a good way for the students to socialize.
On Fridays all the Yellow 5 students work at the Henbury Café. They have worked as café staff members all year, this has increased their efficiency and confidence. The café is open every Friday morning at 10-10.40am. Come by and have a cupper and a delicious bite to eat! We would love to see you.

Our Year 12 students are getting ready for life after school – only a few more weeks left of school! You will be greatly missed Thomas and Jai – the big brothers of Y5. Best of luck in your future endeavors.
CLONTARF

This term our young indigenous men have had the opportunity to participate in 3 structured sessions run by Clontarf and the Year 9 Dripstone boys during lunch time play. The aim of this program is to eventually have our very own Clontarf Academy based here at Henbury. Clontarf focuses on encouraging behavioural change, developing positive attitudes, attracting attendance through sporting activities and assisting students with completing school and securing employment. Students from both schools enjoyed a friendly game of ultimate frisbee and touch footy while also giving our students the opportunity to build friendships with our neighbouring mainstream school. Good times were had by all.
HENBURY CHRISTMAS STALL
On Friday 4th December (week 8) from 10:20am - 11:00am, the Retail Skills Set Group will be opening our annual Christmas Stall to students, parents and carers. Our beautiful Café on Henbury, run by our talented coffee crew students, will be open for morning tea. Items will be priced between $1 and $30. Please come along, or send in money with your student on this day if you would like them to purchase a special Christmas gift.
