HCL’s 5 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS
The annual Henbury Corporate Luncheon (HCL) is our school’s major fundraiser. As we could not go ahead with our usual event this year, we decided to give back to our HCL supporters and community with “HCL’s 5 Days of Christmas” mini events. Please see the schedule in the back of the newsletter or on our Facebook page with details about how you can be involved. The open afternoon held at school on Thursday 10th December from 3pm is a great opportunity for families and carers to take a tour through the school to see all our amazing facilities. Please RSVP to the front office if you would like to attend – 8997 7077.
TERRITORY EXCELLENCE AWARDS
I would like to congratulate Leanne Chalker and Brittany Daly who were nominated by fellow Henbury colleagues in the Teach in the Territory Excellence awards. Well done ladies and thank you to the staff who put time into making these nominations to recognise our valuable staff.
GRADUATION
Last Thursday we celebrated our Year 12 Graduation at the Darwin Hilton Hotel. We were privileged to have our Minister for Education, Lauren Moss, in attendance. It was such an exciting fun filled night for everyone involved. With 23 Year 12 students graduating, we had our biggest celebration so – 127 guests. A massive thank you to mitmat4d – photography for the fun photo booth. Pump My Disco for the awesome tunes, and to Nick from Nicholas Parry Photography for the top quality professional photography. The Hilton Darwin helped make our students’ evening one to remember! Congratulations to all our graduates and their families! We will miss you all and look forward to seeing you around the community!

END OF YEAR CELEBRATIONS
It is wonderful seeing all our classes celebrating the end of the school year with plans of class parties and excursions. Families and Carers are welcome to attend our final assembly on Tuesday 15th December. Our last school day for 2020 is Thursday 17th December.
RIGHTS ON SHOW WINNERS
Our Dripstone Middle School 2 class entered a collaborative art work named, ‘Make your words as beautiful as a flower’, into this year Darwin Community Legal Service’s (DCLS) Rights on Show Art Exhibition held at The Supreme Court. This year’s theme was ‘United We Stand’. The Dripstone class were very excited to win the High School category for their art piece. Henbury School has been entering art work into this art exhibition for nearly 10 years.
Henbury Young Reporter for the Environment (YRE) Win First Place for National Eco-School Photo Competition
On Tuesday the 1st of December our Henbury YRE students participated in the Virtual Winners Workshop. The students met virtually with others schools who won the written and video section of the competition. Each winning category shared how they came up with their idea for the competition and how they put it together.
The special guest Mr. Alvin Stone, Media and Communications Manager at ARC Centre of Excellence for Climate Extremes, gave students tips on how to run a successful media campaign about an environmental problem. Mr Stone also offered to provide Henbury YRE students with details of a leading professional in the area of plastic pollution to help the students continue their campaign.
Congratulations to Ryan, Snaha, Jordan, Heidi and Lachlan on your winner entry. The students plan to use their Amazon voucher on purchasing metal reusable straws for the café.

HENBURY NT LEARNING COMMISSIONERS (NTLC)
What a big year of wonderful growth and development in leadership demonstrated by all in the NTLC. Students took on any task big or small and stepped up in the absence of peers and sometimes with 1 minutes notice. The students started a pretty big project that will continue into next year and we are all excited to see their ideas and suggestions put into action. Henbury Learning Commissioners, Sarah Corry, Amanda and Grace spent Friday 20th November sharing all of the students hard work and celebrating their success with other NTLC students from around the NT.
Well done Henbury Learning Commissioners.
DMS2 DONATIONS
Students from DMS2 started a class business at the start of the year. The class cooked for Henbury staff and charged staff for their meals. A lot of learning was had throughout the year, but the biggest was budgeting and profits. In Term 1, students decided that they would donate half of their profits somewhere. At the start of Term 4, students decided to donate school supplies, sporting equipment and board games to students in Wadeye. Chartair got on board and will be delivering the goods to Wadeye on Wednesday, week 9.
CSC1 & CSC2
CSC 1 & CSC 2 Enjoyed a day out together exploring The Territory Wildlife Park.
It was a hot day but a fun day. There were many highlights but we really enjoyed watching the new puppy dingoes, the monsoon forest and aviary walk as well as the Flight Deck Show.
It was great spending time together outside the classroom, and many laughs were had.

George M went to Alice Springs on the weekend to participate in The Red Dessert Dust Up, which is an annual competition held in Alice Springs. George fought against an Australian Silver Medallist and after three rounds it was called a draw. George is looking forward to entering more boxing matches in 2021. Well done George!
SCIENCE SATELLITE
Finally the link to our Satellite Selfie has arrived. The image is very blurry but you can just make it out on the lawn area next to Science room. The image from ground level is also shown so that you can compare. The turtle was a collage of Henbury and outreach classes painting a part of the shell. The turtle was then stuck together to produce the giant turtle. Thank you to Hamish N and his supporters for doing this.

THE BIG RED BUS TOUR
Students from various classes participated in ‘The big Red Bus Tour’ on Monday the 23rd November. Students enjoyed an hour long trip viewing various Darwin location whilst listening to music and enjoying each others company.
