PRINCIPALS REPORT
Dear Parents/Carers
Another year has come to an end and what a year it was! Congratulations on surviving 2020 with us all. With all its challenges we still had so much to celebrate this year. A true highlight for me was the Year 12 graduation at the Hilton Hotel. I am so proud of each of our graduates and the pathways they will be following in 2021. We will miss you all dearly and hope you drop in and say hello. We love to share in your continued journey as active citizens of our community.
Reports and Student Classes 2021
Semester reports, T/EAP reviews and 2020 attendance records will go home with your child in a sealed envelope on Wednesday the 16 December. If you do not receive this please contact the front office on 89977077 or email henbury.admin@ntschools.net.
Last week a letter was sent home with the names of your child’s teachers and classmates for 2021. If the sealed envelope did not make it please contact the school to be advised of 2021 details. Where possible, students who are moving classes and/or have changes in staff for 2021 have been visiting their new classes and staff over the last two weeks. Some students who have been identified as requiring more time to transition have been given this opportunity with an individual transition timetable throughout Term Four. We hope this makes for a smoother transition back to school in 2021.
Presentation Assembly
The presentation Assembly on Tuesday was recognition of the marvellous work our students do. Special recognition must go to Enrique for singing the national anthem. The performances were very entertaining and I thank all that were involved. Thank you to the Student Commissioners who hosted the Assembly, you should be proud of what you did. Thank you to Amanda for your organisation of the Student Commissioners.
Congratulations to the students below on receiving the following awards:

He has shown outstanding tenacity and courage at improving his opportunities for post school life. Congratulations Thomas!

Goodbyes
Jill White will say her final goodbye to Henbury at the end of this week as she looks forward to retirement. Jill has work over 25 years in the NT Department of Education as a teacher. At Henbury she has worked across all classes and ability levels proving herself an invaluable Special Educator. We wish her all the very best and know she will visit us whilst enjoying a more relaxed approach to life. Congratulations Jill, you will be sorely missed!
Mel and Jason are also leaving us for new adventures in 2021. We wish them all the best at their next school and thank them for their time at Henbury School.

Henbury’s 5 Days of Christmas
Last week we gave back to our HCL supporters and community with “HCL’s 5 Days of Christmas” mini events. Students were welcome around Darwin starting at the Convention Centre on Monday, then following days at HPA, Halikos HQ, open afternoon at Henbury School and finishing at Henbury on Aralia on Friday. I would like to thank all staff who put in many, many hours to prepare for our mini events. A special thank you goes to Lauren Hofmeyer, Raylee Parker and Felicity Faull and the events team, without their inspiring leadership this would not have been the success it was.

Café on Henbury
Henbury Café had its last day on Saturday 12 December. Despite the challenges of Covid19 it was a successful year for our café. Students learnt invaluable skills while working in this space. During our School Review at the start of the term, we received a huge commendation in regards to student learning in this space and this contributed to receiving an outstanding level in domain 9 of the School Review. The café will open again in Term 1, 2021 with the exact date TBC as we have new students to train! Thank you Tahnee who has been our fabulous manager for 2020. Tahnee is off to explore new endeavours in 2021. We wish you every bit of success.
Henbury Op Shop
The Henbury Op Shop will be closed for 2 weeks over the Christmas break from 23 December to the 12 January. Thank you to Seva our manager and all our dedicated staff and volunteers who do an amazing job of creating an inclusive space for our student to learn while also providing the Darwin community with the best Op Shop in town! Get down there and get your Christmas bargains before the shop closes next week!
Back to school 2021
The office will be open from Monday the 11 January from 8:00am to 4:00pm to collect ‘Back to School Vouchers,’ book packs and uniforms.
I wish all students, families, carers and school community members a joyous Christmas and a safe holiday.
School resumes for students on Monday 1 February 2021.
Remember to stay COVID safe and follow all up to date Government directions if you are travelling.

ENTERPRISE ENT
2020 may have been a dirty word for some, but for Henbury, this year saw the long awaited completion of our Greenhouse. Two years in the making, past and present students have been involved in all aspects of the build from planning, shopping for supplies, concreting footings, and framing.
With walls constructed from over 250 bamboo poles, and more than 1000 recycled bottles, the Henbury Greenhouse would not have been possible without Project 21 NT, Cash for Containers generous donation.
Now a working nursery, the amazing Horticulture Crew have already filled their first order for Henbury on Aralia.

NT COGSO

SCHOOL NURSE-B PART OF IT
B Part of It NT is a research study offering free licenced and recommended meningococcal B immunisations to young people aged 14 to19 to protect themselves against meningococcal B disease, as well as collecting information that could help to inform if the immunisation may offer protection against gonorrhoea in the community.
Throughout 2021, those aged 14 to 19 in the Northern Territory can receive a free immunisation for meningococcal B, (the Bexsero vaccine, which requires two doses, two months apart) by enrolling in the study through their school or community health clinic.
The process involves two immunisations two months apart and two throat swabs, one swab with the first immunisation, a second immunisation two months later and the second swab 12 months after the first immunisation. All steps need to be completed for our team to understand the impact of our study.
On the day of the immunisations, young people who get their immunisation and provide a throat swab will be provided with a $20 voucher, or gift card to thank them for their time.
The Bexsero vaccine is licenced for use in Australia and available now to people in the NT, however there is a cost for those who receive it outside of this study.
Henbury School will not be offering this study at school however if eligible students and their families wish to take part they may participate through their local Community Health Care Centre Casuarina: (08) 89227301 or Palmerston (08) 89993344.
