Term four is quickly getting away from us and with it has brought some challenges with the ever changing COVID-19 situation.
I would like to start by reassuring families that the safety and wellbeing of all students, our staff and visitors is our highest priority at Henbury School.
With the latest COVID-19 outbreak occurring throughout Katherine and Robinson River, we are applying a high level of caution to ensure the safety of all our students, families and staff.
General Hygiene Practices
Good hygiene is encouraged and practiced by all staff and students. This includes washing hands frequently, using hand sanitiser, keeping hands away from the face, coughing into the elbow and physically distancing where possible.
Drop off / pick up
Drop off and pick up of students should be done via the bus lane where possible. If your child needs your assistance to enter the school due to their disability, please do so by the side gate next to the administration building if possible. If parents and caregivers have to enter the administration building due to their child’s needs, please observe physical distancing and immediately return to their vehicle following drop off and pick up of their child.
What to do is your child is unwell
If your child is unwell, please keep them home, get them tested if they have COVID-19 symptoms and await the result prior to sending them back to school.
Whole school Professional Development Day POSTPONED
As per our messaging last Friday, our whole school professional development day was postponed. This was due to both the concern around the evolving COVID-19 situation and the absence of suitable trained staff to conduct the day. We will endeavour to reschedule the day to one of the remaining Mondays this term. When we have confirmation we will let you know straight away. The course staff will undertake on this day is; The Management of Actual or Potential Aggression (MAPA) training. It is one of the behaviour management training options available for Departmental staff. It provides strategies and skills to safely respond to anxious, hostile or violent behaviour.
HALLOWEEN @ HENBURY
A massive thank you to all students, parent and carers who attended this event and made it a success. Thank you also to all staff that were involve in the planning and who help out during the night.
A great night with a massive crowd, happy dancers and costumes galore!!

WORLD TEACHERS’ DAY
We celebrated World Teachers’ Day on Friday 29 October. All our staff were spoilt with a barista coffee and croissant in the morning and a special gift for their commitment to education. Thank you Minister Lauren Moss for dropping in to see us and delivering a scrumptious cake! We really appreciate your ongoing support of our school.
That afternoon, many of our staff attended the Teaching in the Territory Excellence Awards formal ceremony, held at the Botanical Gardens function room. This was in support of Anne McClelland for being one of three finalists for Inclusion Educator of the year. You are an amazing educator Anne and we are very privileged to have you at Henbury School. Thank you to Royal (one of our parents) and Rachel from Down Syndrome Association for taking the time to nominating Anne.

SMS OUTREACH
The Sanderson Middle Outreach class has had another busy semester. We have been learning about the wonders of the Solar System and the history of Halloween! Just ask any one of us for a fun fact.
The group has been out on several active Community Access excursions. Including a tour of CDU, a midgie infested lunch at Charles Darwin National Park and many Volleyball matches at East Point Reserve.
We have had a great time preparing for Halloween. A recent Day of the Dead scavenger hunt saw Francis and Kayden taking out the win.

BUSLINK 2022 CONTINUING REQUEST FORMS
To ensure transport services are provided to students at the start of the school year, all students requiring transport in 2022 need to complete and submit the Request for Special Needs Transport form.
All sections of the request are to be completed and returned to school before Friday 26 November 2021.
Any forms received after the 26 November 2021 may result in your application being delayed in 2022.
Should your child not require transport assistance in 2022 please advise the front office as soon as possible.
Attached below is the electronic version of the letter and form that was sent home last week.
NIGHTCLIFF MIDDLE VISIT TOMRA RECYCLING CENTRE
Just wanting to share the value of TOMRA Recycling Centre. We found it really valuable today for our Community Access visit (Cross curricular Maths/Science reporting) to witness the recycling program in action at the TOMRA Centre in Coconut Grove.
Damian (Manager) gave our class a tour of the centre and spoke to the students about the importance of recycling
Our students were also super excited to see the 10c value go up on the counter as they deposited the recyclables.
A motivated student said: oh I am going to come here everyday!!! haha
Please contact Damian on the email below. He prefers Wednesday midday for groups no bigger than 8 or so. Perfect for us.

Happy recycling – lets save the planet.

TEA TOWEL DESIGN COMPETITION
At the end of Term Three, students submitted designs for the school Tea Towel Design Competition. There were three categories – NT theme, Christmas theme, and a free choice theme. Year 12 students Banjo Isis and Michael MD have been working with HPA AusDesigns, as part of their work training, to bring the tea towels to life. Eight students’ designs were selected for the NT theme tea towel and have now been screen printed. Banjo and Michael helped design and edit the Christmas theme tea towel using the Photoshop program. The Christmas tea towel used five student original designs and will be screen printed shortly! Tea towels will be for sale at the school Christmas Stall on Friday 3rd December for $10, or are available now at Henbury on Aralia Café.

Just wanted to share Callum’s first shift at McDonald's Johnston tonight.
He did really well :)
Callum has come such a long way since starting at Henbury. I wanted to share his amazing achievement with you all.
Callum surprises me every day, he steps so fearless into new challenges. Callum really has grown into such a mature young man.
Thank you all for playing your part.
