ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
One thing is certain and that is that Henbury is never dull and always busy for our students and staff!
We were pleased to go ahead with our Professional Development days on 12th and 13th May. All staff participated in a two-day workshop focused on ‘Fresh Start’ which is our whole school phonological awareness and reading program. It was fantastic to learn about the program and how we can adapt to our learners to build this area of their skills and knowledge.

Structured Teaching expert and facilitator, Gail Preston once again visited us this week to provide professional development on this whole school framework. On 25th May a number of new staff participated in day one of the Structured Teaching workshop. Gail also visited classes, imparting her wisdom and providing feedback in order to strengthen our Structured Teaching practices and resources. The Structured Teaching framework considers the learning environment (physical structures), schedules, work systems, routines and visual strategies, and the visual structure of materials to make learning more accessible for our students.
Also, on Wednesday the 25th of May, Henbury’s student NT Learning Commissioners (NTLC) met up with John Cleary, Vicky Baylis and the PIVOT team to discuss Student Survey data, ABLES data and PIVOT. The Learning Commissioners also discussed big past projects and projects they are working on this year and into the future. Students were encouraged to share what they have done in their NTLC journey and what they are proud of at school and within themselves.

DECKCHAIR CINEMA
On Sunday evening, Henbury hosted a fundraiser event at the Deckchair Cinema. While is was a little quiet (being a school night!), a substantial amount of money was raised for our school. A big shout out must go to our staff for their time and for how smoothly the evening ran. Thank you to all our families who came out to support us.

HENBURY SCHOOL 40TH ANNIVERSARY
Please mark in your diaries Wednesday 22nd June (Week 10) for Henbury’s 40th Birthday celebration to be held on campus from 5pm. If you know of any past families or staff that you think would appreciate an invite, please let us know.
OP SHOP NEWS
Please remember our school Op Shop is open Monday to Saturday on Aralia Street Nightcliff, and Henbury on Aralia Café is open Thursday to Saturday morning. Please bring along any of your dry season visitors so they can see a bit of what our school is all about. The Op Shop and Café will be open as normal over the June/July holidays.
ALL ABILITIES NETBALL
The out of school All Abilities Netball Tournament kicked off on Thursday 19th May at Marrara Netball Stadium. A large number of current and past Henbury students are part of the tournament. If you are looking for a fun Thursday evening outing come down to Court 1 at 5:45pm to check out the action.

Greetings from Yellow 2
It has been a busy start to the Term trying to fit in all our NTCETM requirements and extracurricular activities. Along with Yellow 5 we have been out in the community each Wednesday enjoying the cooler weather throughout Term 2.

We have enjoyed outings to the Mangrove Board Walk, the Museum and our favourite so far has been the Reference Library.
Each Thursday Yellow 2 students have been practicing their cooking and barista skills in the Kitchen throughout Term 1 we served the community and for the reminder of Term 2 and the year they are practicing their communication skills by taking and delivering orders throughout the school.
This year we have two year 12 students who will be leaving us. Isaiah and Enrique have been preparing for their future lifestyles through visiting potential work sites and post school options. They have been working on their resumes and refining their work skills to ensure they are prepared for their future.
Hello from Yellow 3
Yellow 3 had a lot of fun making beeswax candles for the Mother’s Day stall this term. The students did a great job of working together on a tricky new activity and produced some lovely candles. We used our measurement skills to portion the wax sheets and wicks and used hair dryers to soften the wax for rolling. A sprig of rosemary and a gift tag completed the look.
Our class is learning all about measurement this term. Hands-on activities like cooking and craft give students the opportunity to use this knowledge whilst completing a fun, practical activity. We will be furthering our candle-making skills later this term with soy wax candles!

Dylan Alcott visit
Students from the Rising Stars Basketball and others had an amazing meet and greet with Dylan Alcott this week at the NT Tennis Centre. The meet and greet was organised by Sommerville, Jacinta (Disability Sports NT) and Tennis NT.
It was so inspiring to see Dylan mix in with the kids and give each of them a few minutes of his precious time. Such an incredible human and role model for our students. Our students were buzzing after. An experience like this can stay with them forever. A huge thanks to staff for supporting the students to get to the event.

Green 3 news
Green 3 have well and truly settled into the school year. We’ve had some hiccups and some fun on our learning adventure.
This year we have three year 12s; Karly, Honor and Mikaylah. Our year 11s are Willam and Judy. The new members of the gang are our year 10s; Cruz and Kobey.
We’ve been moving our bodies every morning, going for walks, shooting some hoops and jumping on the trampoline. This has helped us settle into our morning routine.
Our gang are learning skills in their communication devices and signing each morning during our morning meeting. We’re even requesting choice and regulation activities!
Of course, we’ve been shopping and cooking as well. Making sure that we’re making and eating healthy meals!
For our specialist subjects, we’re always busy in Woodwork with Vince and Horticulture with Matumba.
We’ve been making our way around Darwin on Community Access. Our year 12s have been going out and looking at future pathways!
