PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Welcome to Semester 2! What beautiful dry season weather we are having. It is great to see all our students utilising our beautiful school grounds throughout the day, especially during lunch and recess. Tip has been a favorite of many of our students during break times and it is so pleasing to see all students of all abilities included in this game. Thank you to P4 who is now B4 for sharing their video on the rules of Tip, so everyone stays happy and safe. Basketball is also a favorite among our students. Staff member Dylan has been running a hotly contested basketball competition on our outside court on Thursdays for when all our Middle Years Outreach classes are on campus.
At the start of the term, all teachers participated in the ‘Love Bites’ training to support our young people in respectful relationships. This program will dovetail into our Human Growth and Development (HGD) program which is reported under the subject Health. If you would like to know more about the program, please contact the school or your child’s teacher directly. Thank you to Rowan Barrow and Lucy Shiels who have been leading the HGD School Improvement group, to ensure teachers have access to resources that suit the range of student levels at Henbury School.
We have an exciting term ahead with Senior and Middle Years camp, Science Fair and Kids Teaching kids. The Education Department has updated excursion forms so new forms are being sent out for camps and Semester 2 excursions. Please make sure these get sent back to school ASAP, so your child does not miss out on these valuable learning experiences.

SEMESTER ONE REPORTS
If you missed getting your child’s report at the end of last term, please contact the front office or your child’s teacher directly.
SCHOOL ATTENDANCE
If your child is not attending school for a day or extended period, it is policy that parents/carers must contact the school and provide a reason. If we get repeated unauthorised absences, we are required to open a case with the Student Engagement team in the Department.
NUTRITION
If your child is on the nutrition program, please make sure your account is up to date. Contact leah.atkinson@education.nt.gov.au if you need to check the status of your account.
HELMETS
Please check your child is wearing their helmet and that it is correctly fitted if they ride a bike, scooter, or skateboard to school. Please talk to your child about the importance of helmets in preventing serious injury. There have been many instances where staff are seeing that students are not wearing helmets or wearing them, but they are loose, or the strap is not done up.

DMS 1
DMS1 have been learning and discussing significant events in Australian History. As a class, we brainstormed what we thought the key events, then created a timeline and research through each stage. We have learned about events dating from the Dream Time over 65,000 years ago up until the recent Covid-19 pandemic. We even got to explore the buildings at East Point which were made during World War II.

HI FROM DMS 2
DMS2 students got straight back into their learning this Term. They have started to shop online for the nutrition program. Students look for their products and add up all their purchases using long addition or with the use of a calculator. Starting in week 4, the class will be going shopping again and will be then compare their online shopping total with the instore value. Also, in week 4, the class will start bus training. We will visit numerous places around the community using the public bus. Students have started to study bus timetables and work out timings of when they will need to leave and when they will arrive.
We hope everyone has an amazing Term Three.

CSC OUTREACH 1 & 2 ARTISTS
Earlier this year several budding artists were discovered hiding amongst the CSC Outreach classes. They were discovered as unsuspecting students tried their hand at different art mediums and techniques as part of Creative Arts.

Students spent time experimenting with watercolour paints, acrylic paints, pencil and clay. As the term progressed, each talented artist was found as their stunning art caught the attention of others. It was an exciting experience. All artists have now been accounted for and are enjoying practicing their skills without the need to hide and sharing their skills with the rest of the students. They have kindly given their permission for a selection of their works to be on display later this year at the Henbury Art Exhibition.
