ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
As Term 3 comes to a close, it is nice to look back on all the special events that have occurred over the last 10 weeks that make Henbury a truly unique and wonderful school – lifelong memories were made at our senior and middle years school camps at Wallaroo and Batchelor; science learning opportunities were numerous with Kids Teaching Kids, visits from Questicon and Solar Buddies, Bio Blitz week activities and not to mention the Science Fair earlier in the term; the annual Father’s Day Stall was a great hit in Week 7; the Transition and Pathways Info session was well attended by service providers and families; our NTLC students blew the socks off other attendees at the NT Dept of Ed Engagement Team meeting, Mid-Year Pitch at Nemarluk and Student Voice Peak Conference; we participated in the Touch Football School Sports Gala Day and the Activate Inclusion Sports Day; and lastly we were grateful to be the recipients of the Darwin International Airport and Darwin Golf Club Charity Day in which our students volunteered. Looking back, it is no wonder we are all in need of some down time over the school holidays!
It is with mixed feelings that we officially announce the Henbury Op Shop and Henbury on Aralia Café are moving from Aralia Street Nightcliff in late Term 4. Our new site is ‘closer to home’, at The Village Shopping Centre on Bradshaw Terrace – just a short stroll from the school. The new shops at The Village are undergoing a custom designed refit, it was great to have Blue 3 drop in to check out the space before it gets it’s make-over.

Everyone would agree our Nightcliff Learning Precinct has served us well over the last 10 years, and we will miss many elements of being located there.
Please head down to the op shop and café these holidays as we come to the end of this era, (the café is open Thurs, Fri and Sat until 1pm. Op Shop Mon-Sat all day).
EAP and TEAP Review Meetings
Education Adjustment Plan (EAP) and Transition Education Adjustment Plan Meetings (TEAP) Review Meetings are an important opportunity for parents/carers/stakeholders to discuss your child’s progress over the school year, celebrate achievements, discuss concerns and make plans for the following year. By now all parents/carers/guardians should have had their child’s EAP/TEAP review meeting, or have one booked for early Term 4. We have the options of face-to-face meetings, online via TEAMs/Skype/Zoom or over the phone. Please contact the school ASAP if you are unsure of when your child’s meeting is - 8997 7077.
Centrelink
In August Services Australia (Centrelink) Community Liaison Officer’s Barbara and Jo, visited the school on three occasions to share information and work with families/guardians on Centrelink entitlements. This included helping to use MYGOV, outlining supporting documents needed for Disability Support Pension and Pensioner Education Supplement and other entitlements, and filling in relevant application forms. Barbara and Jo are working closely with seniors Raylee and Felicity, and will be continuing sessions every second month at the school – the next is tentatively booked for the 26th October. Please contact Raylee or Felicity if you would like to attend this session or if you require assistance in the meantime.

Transition and Pathways Information Session
On 7th August the annual Transition and Pathways Information Session was held at the school with students and families in attendance. An overview was given of Henbury’s transition from school processes and over 20 service providers and organisations were introduced and gave a snapshot of their services to the audience. Families then had the opportunity to meet and connect, ask questions and collect information. This information session will be held again in Semester 1 2023, and is a great opportunity to become familiar with post school options and connect with service providers that may be able to assist your child now and/or into the future. If you require info or support with your child’s NDIS Plan, or wish to complete an Access Request for NDIS plan and need assistance please contact Raylee or Felicity at the school.

All Abilities Netball
Many of our past and present students are part of the All Abilities Netball Tournament which is held at the Mararra Netball Stadium on Thursday evenings. Tournament players came together to receive their end of season medals as part of the grand final night. Bank Bulldogs Club players also loved being part of Junior presentation evening at King Pin whereby the Jack Parker Spirit of the Game trophy recipient was awarded to long time AA player Grace Tuiono. Other award recipients included Most Improved Player – Roman G, Best and Fairest – Tracy Ann W, and Coaches Award – Narvia S.

Touch Football Gala Day
Henbury School and Outreach classes from CSC, Darwin High and Sanderson Middle participated in the Touch Football School Sports Gala Day for the very first time this term. We competed against 6 other school teams winning one game and drawing one. Students represented the school well, demonstrating excellent skills on the field and amazing sportsmanship. It was a fun day out for all.

SCIENCE NEWS
Week 9 was a busy week in Science with visit from Origin Foundation involving Henbury School in the Solar Buddy Program and Questacon for exploring wind tunnels with our students
SOLAR BUDDY – Presented by Origin Foundation
Solar Buddy is a global impact organisation uniting a global community to illuminate the futures of all children living in energy poverty. One of the biggest obstacles we face is extreme energy poverty; one of the worst forms of poverty that hardly anyone knows about. It is a complex challenge, impacting the health and wellbeing, educational outcomes, and economic stability of the communities experiencing it as well as our environment.
The students at Henbury learnt about energy poverty and about becoming a global citizen. They discovered that only a small percentage of Papua New Guinea- PNG citizens have access to electricity and that most use kerosene lanterns for light with produce toxic fumes and are expensive and dangerous. In pairs they made a solar light that would be shipped to children living in PNG for their use.
Denilson “The solar buddy program was good because you
help people”
Ayden “It was the first time I have and electronic device.”
Jade “It was fascinating and a good learning opportunity”

QUESTACON – Wind Tunnel Workshop
Students were introduced to what a wind tunnel is and how scientist use them to test the aerodynamics of a variety of objects.
Cooper “We made a parachute”
Kyra “We used wind tunnels to test what would fly, spin/hoover, sink and
stick”
Jade” There were different types and size air tunnels to test different
objects”
Denis “We made all different shapes to test in the wind tunnels. We found
that circle and cone shapes worked the best”
A big thank you to Questacon for presenting the workshop with our students.

MORE SCIENCE – KIDS TEACHING KIDS DAY

BATCHELOR CAMP
Camp Batchelor 2022 was held on 25-26 August. Students engaged in activities such as rock climbing, abseiling, high ropes and archery but to name a few. Student numbers were lower due to having split camps this year which increased student engagement. A big thankyou to all staff who attended and gave their time over one night two days.

GREEN 1
Green 1 have been on lots of exciting adventures this year!
We visited Camp Wallaroo together. Some of us even packed our tents, torches and stayed overnight!
We raced each other and our teachers at Sports Day.
We held snakes, launched rockets and popped bubbles at the Science Fair.

We even hosted our own stall at Kids Teaching Kids Day this week.

Luckily, we’ve also found time for some special lunches to celebrate our hard work.

We’re feeling very proud of the progress we have all made in our communication at school and in the community.
