Assistant Principal's report
Dear Parents and Carers
Hi to all parents, carers, students and staff, term 4 has certainly begun in earnest with many different programs and activities occurring:
The Annual Henbury Corporate Luncheon
The Annual Henbury Corporate Luncheon is on again on 4 December this year. Please help the school by purchasing tickets to attend, perhaps even forming a table amongst friends. Tickets are available now and the school needs your help. As this is a major fundraising venture for Henbury School, we would like to sell as many tickets as possible. Could you please forward on our newsletter to any interested parties. For further information please contact HCL organisers Carly Horsfall or Vince Poke on 89275088.
Please find attached HCL sponsorship and ticket information. Please pass on to your friends, family and other contacts.

Swimming program
A reminder to all parents that Swimming started this week and occurs every Wednesday. Students are divided into swimming groups and transported to the Casuarina pool from 11 am – through to 1pm and generally will have a 30 minute swimming session. Parents/carers please make sure that your child has their swimming apparel with them on the day, and that you have returned all excursion forms to the school. No verbal permissions will be accepted for this program. Students who are not swimming will have a structured program that revolves around water and water safety.
Secondary Teacher of the year nomination
Henbury School is very proud to announce that Sarah Corry has been shortlisted for Secondary Teacher of the Year. Winners are announced at Parliament House on the 30 October. Good luck Sarah.
Special Education in Senior Schools Network (Senior Teacher 1)
Congratulations to the founding members of the SESS network Lauren Hofmeyer and Sarah Corry on gaining support and recognition of the Department of Education for the continuation of the Special Education in Senior Schools Network. This network I am sure will be instrumental in future curriculum development for our senior school students.
Riding for the Disabled
Our riding program will continue for another two weeks and finishes 28 October. Please ensure that your child brings their riding gear with them to school each Tuesday if they are a participant. Wednesday riding is no longer possible due to our swimming program.
Rugby League gift
During term 3 Mr Darren Manaway Game Development Officer –Affiliated States for National Rugby League was invited to work along-side Chelsea (TOTAL RECREATION) in delivering Rugby League activities to our students. During this time National Rugby League through Darren arranged for a gift to the school of 50 Rugby League balls and other goodies to be given to participating students.
Transport for students with special Needs
If you are a parent/carer for a student who travels on special needs transport you will shortly be receiving a copy of "Transport for Students with Special Needs" Policy/Guidelines and FAQ's which will be sent home with your child. In the 2016 request for transport you will be asked if you have received a copy of the Policy and guidelines. When you complete this request could you please double check that all sections are completed before returning this request to school.

Rod Opie
Assistant Principal
F1
This semester F1 was involved in an amazing collaboration with F2 for our family night production. The boys were very brave and took risks to dress up in character for 'I Want to Break Free'. It was the best fun we've had at school and we laughed a lot. We were very proud of the end product.
Along with all our learning we have been excelling in other areas too such as cooking and art. Everyone has been involved in some type of VET or work training. Manoli represented the school in the VETis World skills comp and Harry and Brandon were in both the Darwin Sun and Australian newspapers.
We use our community access for gaining skills in planning for and accessing public venues, bus travel and money handling. We also use the time to learn social skills. We have had a number of free excursions to the local surf club park, where we've had BBQs, danced, played and relaxed. It's become one of our favourite spots to get to know each other and have a nice time.
On the 12th October we welcomed our 8th boy named Terry, 161cm, 105 pounds 8 ounces, teacher and student doing well.

Hello from F2
It's Term 4 and we have been getting right back into the swing of things. Our days are busy and filled with fun and learning.
We've excitedly started our whole school swimming program again this week and the weather is just perfect.
Our hard working and dedicated class members have continued work experience at the Laundry, Op Shop and HPA. Keep up the good work Julio, Carrie, Caitlin and Jonathan.
Julio and Lorenzo have started Rock & Water again, learning how to be centred and focussed- just what we need to get us through the mango madness season.
The communication has been flowing as Jonathan, Carrie, Caitlin and Manoli practise using various forms of communication and attentively listening with each other during our PCE (Promoting Communitive Effectiveness) group sessions.
We're happy to say we are still linking up with our buddy class F1 to play a few games of competitive badminton and bowling. Bring it on boys!
It's been a pleasure having 3 young boys from Nemarluk transitioning to our class and making new friends. We've even taught them a few dances thanks to Jonathan and Lorenzo.
And of course we have been getting on with our classwork, developing our literacy, numeracy and life skills.
