Professional Development Day Friday 5 February 2016.
School Council and the Executive Director for Henbury School have endorsed and approved a Professional Development Day for all staff. This will be Friday 5 February 2016. All staff will undertake workshops on signing, Tobii Eye Gaze, PECS, Prologu2Go (iPads/iPods) and switches. This Professional Development day is aligned with the Department of Education Strategic Plan, Goal 2: Every student a successful learner and Strategy 1: Deliver quality teaching and a contemporary curriculum that is meaningful and differentiated to enable students to be successful learners through quality evidence based learning programs. Next year, the school will publish when workshops are on and these workshops will also be available for parents to attend.
There will be no school for students of Henbury, including Outreach Classes on this day. Special Needs Transport will not operate for students of Henbury School. OSHC will operate on this day. Please make contact with Pat to book your child in, if you wish to have your child attend OSHC for this day.

School Council Updates
NUTRITION
In my role as Treasurer on the School Council, I have noticed a large debt regarding Nutrition Programme payments. The Nutrition Programme is voluntary for families. If you don't wish to access this program, families are then asked to provide recess and lunch from home. Weekly payments of $30 are required to remain part of this great programme. If these payments are not kept up to date, the school is then forced to cover the costs. This is disappointing, as this extra cash could be used in other areas of need. The end of the school year is near, therefore I would like to ask any families with outstanding debts to please clear these debts as soon as possible. Thank you.
SCHOOL COUNCIL VACANCIES
There will be two parent vacancies on the School Council at the beginning of 2016. It is very rewarding to be part of a school council and play a role in assisting the school to provide a very valued education for our children. If anyone is interested in filling one of these vacancies, please contact Principal, Carolyn Edwards on 8927 5088.
WELCOMING NEW FAMILIES TO HENBURY
The School Council recently put on a morning tea for parents of new students to Henbury to visit the school and meet School Council members and School staff. It was a lovely informal gathering to meet new faces and experience the friendly environment of Henbury School. Transition from primary to secondary school can be a challenging period for both parents and children. At Henbury, we aim to make this experience as easy as possible for families.

Greetings from B1 class
Another busy term is flying by, it's Week 8 already! These are some of the great activities we've been doing over the Term.
At the Gym, we've learnt new exercises with weights and have increased our work out time to 10 minutes on the cardio machines.
The school swimming session has been a great addition to our weekly program.
We've had great fun at our Wednesday afternoon Music Jam sessions with our friends in G2 class. We sing our favourite songs on the microphone and play various musical instruments.
During this Term, Igen celebrated his 15th birthday and Jeffrey his 13th birthday.
This Term, we've visited interesting places for community access:- Fannie Bay Gaol, The Botanical Gardens, The Charles Darwin National Park, the gun turret at East Point and a Waterfront and Esplanade walk. We also had an exciting time at Kingpin with our F1 and F2 buddies.
Greetings from Sanderson Outreach
At Sanderson outreach, this semester, we have been doing lots of interesting activities to achieve our annual targets of student EAP goals; together with Visible Learning being the highlight of all learning areas.
In Term 3 we started off with the Family Night video that had a theme of "Rock of Ages". Our class of boys with the teacher and SESO made a very successful production on the YMCA song that entertained the crowd. Our cupcake business has been thriving and bringing in lots of orders for birthday parties from staff at Henbury as well as collecting amazing comments from our client. Some of the profits made by the sale of cupcakes was used as reward for students' fun day at King Pin, where all students enjoyed a game of Bowling and Laser tag accompanied with lunch.
In term 4, we have been trying to achieve our annual target of visiting 5 different job sites to advance student knowledge of various job opportunities. We have been to two excursions this term; first one to Territory Wildlife Park as some students were interested in doing park ranger related job in future and secondly to a company called Programmed that is a provider of staffing, maintenance and facility management nationally.
We also had students transitioning from Nermaluk this term; joining our class to prepare for 2016. Our class has been working as Henbury Garden Crew throughout this year and have also created craft to sell at the craft fair held on the 28th and 29th November.
We at SMS outreach have had a great year and looking forward to 2016.
Have a great weekend, from Sanderson Outreach.
Jevaughn and Bradin on excursion to Territory Wildlife Park.
All students excursion to Programmed.
Reward day at King Pin, enjoying a game bowling and laser tag.
Nermaluk students transitioning at SMS outreach; playing the "Getting to know each other with candy" game.
Student and teacher created craft using wooden peg in various ways for Craft Fair.
SMS outreach students together with teacher and SESO created Baby Shower cupcakes and 30th Birthday cupcake orders.
Kingpin Day for CSC outreach
DHS Outreach and CSC Outreaches went to Kingpin to have fun.
We went climbing in the ropes course. We wore a harness to be safe crossing the stairs and bridges which was tricky. Nick and I were nervous but we did it because we wore a harness.
After doing the rope course all the boys from CSC and Darwin High went to the laser tag room where we had to watch the screen about the rules. We were not allowed to run, use inappropriate language, have physical contact, lie down, climb on scenery or do any rough play and we had to wear a vest so we could play the game. Each vest had a name; my name was Zenith. It was dark and quiet. You had point the gun at a vest with lights on it. I shot at mainstream students from CSC who were in the other team. It was fun.
The food we ate for lunch was burger, hotdogs, chicken wrap or chips. It was good food and delicious. We all drank water. I helped Deb with the lunch orders by asking everyone what they wanted for lunch.
After lunch we played arcade games. We bought fun cards. Most people brought their own card and charged it up with money and some people bought a 1 hour card for $6. I played Zombies in 3D, Time Crisis 5 and Big Buck Zombies. The other boys played a motorcycle race game, Connect 4, basketball and air hockey. Dorys and Tony played pool while the others watched them. I think the arcade games are cheaper than Darwin show rides.
Overall: It was awesome fun and I didn't care I was the only girl there.
Best part was that the food was awesome and the worst part was to leave.
Michael Dragatis "the freakiest part was going on the ropes. The scariest part was (that) there (were) two people on the platform at first I was that close to falling off the ropes because "I was shaking while I was climbing the ropes" but I was lucky I didn't fall down. "I was holding the pole like I was holding my mum and asking for help."
Advice for other students: "On the ropes course you should tell your friends where you will go so the harnesses don't get tangled." After I got out of the ropes course without my friends getting hurt I asked Rod if I could play the arcade games while they were still on the ropes.
