PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Dear Parents/Carers
Changes to OSHC
Henbury School’s Out of School Hours Care program (“OSHC”) has been providing out of school hours care for children who have special needs since 2008.
Historically, the OSHC has been funded by a combination of Commonwealth Government funding through the Department of Social Services for Outside School Hours Care for Teenagers with Disability, and parents of the children attending, who have generally had access to the Child Care Benefit (“CCB”) and Child Care Rebate (“CCR”) schemes operated under the Department of Human Services.
To assist with this change to NDIS, KPMG was engaged to review the various operational and financial implications for OSHC in its proposed transition to NDIS. Henbury OSHC will become a NDIS Provider.
In the transition to NDIS, the focus of OSHC funding will move from block grant funding in advance, to fee for service funding arrears. That is, under NDIS, a provider is required to deliver a service before claiming for payment of that service against a participant’s plan.
School Council met last Wednesday and approved an increase in fees for OSHC and Vacation Care. Fees have not increased since 2008.
Daily after school session fees from 24 July will be $25/session with parents possibly being able to make claims through CCS.
Vacation Care will have increased fees for the school holidays commencing 1 October. This fee will be $65 / day with parents able to possibly make claims through CCS. OSHC will move/transition from a daily rate for service delivery to a split fee arrangement, which will allow OSHC recovering fees from parents, Child Care Subsidy and NDIA. The fee structure will be as follows:
OSHC and Vacation Care from the 1st July will have a new name, due to the NDIS commencing. The new name will be Social & Recreational @ Henbury (SR@H).
With the introduction of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (“NDIS”) in the Darwin region from 1 July 2018. The Child Care Benefit (“CCB”) and Child Care Rebate (“CCR”) schemes; will cease to exist and make way for the new Child Care Subsidy (“CCS”) scheme on 1 July 2018.
Parents only have two weeks left to complete Child Care Subsidy forms. Please see Ange in OSHC for these forms.

These were sent home last week. Replacement ID cards cost $10.

RED DOG FUNDRAISER
The Year 12 Red Dog fundraiser was a big success. We made $560.35. Thank you to everyone who supported. Student helpers on the night were Dawyte, Jye, Jolina, Richard, Nadia, Coral Lee and Molly. Lots and lots of staff helped out to make sure everything went smoothly.
Congratulations to Meena for winning the Red Dog raffle.
The Year 12’s will all benefit from your generosity and lots of our students had a fun night out with family and friends.

POOL SAFETY LAWS
The Territory government is ensuring the community has up to date, practical and effective swimming pool safety laws. We want to know what you think about the pool safety requirement laws, and if you think changes should be made. The swimming pool safety laws aim to reduce the risk of children under the age of five drowning in home swimming pools. Visit haveyoursay for more information, and to complete a short survey.
GTNT BARISTA SKILL SET
Congratulations to our senior students (and some very clever teachers and SESOs) who successfully completed their Barista Skill Set through GTNT. A massive achievement!
If you want to test out their skills be sure to drop in to the fabulous Coffee Crew, Friday mornings from 10.20-11.00, on campus at Henbury School!
BALANCED CHOICE PROGRAMME
Thanks to the phenomenal Adam Drake and the Balanced Choice Programme team who started an eight week intensive session with some of our senior young men on Monday this week. Sessions involve a physical component, followed by targeted conversations around the school values of respect, resilience, responsibility, compassion and teamwork.
Thanks also to all of our Henbury Corporate Luncheon supporters for making this program possible through your generous donations!
CREWZ’N BREW UPDATES
What an exciting and eventful start to the year for our Crewz’n Brew team in 2018. Our team currently consists of 6 students; Gerry Z, Despina N, Jye NS, Jayden M, Jyspey-Lee BP and Nadia K.
At the beginning of the year we completed our Barista Skill Set with GTNT. We attended the course one day per week, over 5 weeks which gave us plenty of time to practice in between. During the course we learnt to make and become experts of 10 different types of Coffee.
Since graduating from our course we have had many opportunities to practice our skills. We have worked at the following events;
- Royal flying doctor service - 90th birthday celebrations at the Darwin waterfront.
- Woodroffe Primary School Mother’s Day Fete
- Autism walk – Nightcliff
- Nemarluk School Sports Carnival
- Helping People Achieve - Kokoda
- Helping People Achieve - Ausdesigns
- The Official Opening of Harry’s Place
- Humpty Doo Primary School Sports Carnival
When we work at an event after hours we are paid by Henbury School. It is a great part-time job for us all.
A highlight for our team has been the positive feedback we have received from the community.
For all inquiries please contact Felicity Faull on 8997 7077 or check us out on our FaceBook Page Crewz’n Brew.

CSC 2 OUTREACH
CSC2 Out and about!
Byron, Jevaughn and Travis worked hard over the past 9 weeks on their Welding portion of their Automotive Skills Set at Haileybury Rendall School, working with Lyndsay Burmester from Charles Darwin University.
The young men learned to MIG and TIG weld and arc welding procedures as well as working safely with equipment. We'd like to thank Michelle and Lara the two Work Trainers who supported them throughout the whole Semester.
Next week they head to Hobart to represent the NT at the AFL Inclusion carnival where they will be joined by Jye, Shamus and Will. This will be a great opportunity for them to work outside the school environment as a team and to represent the NT.

STAFF PROFILE – GRACE DOUGHTY
Hi everyone, my name is Grace Doughty. I am one of the two SESOs that work in Green 2, this is my second year in this position. Before becoming a permanent SESO I worked in various classrooms across the school as a relief SESO. Being in different classrooms meant I learned how to work with a wide diversity of students in Henbury. I've also had the opportunity to learn about the different programs used within our school, such as Tobii eye gaze and Prolo2go. I worked as one of the work experience trainers where I assisted students transitioning into work place practices. I started my journey at Henbury working in OSHC during the holidays at the old Henbury School. I have been a familiar face around school ever since I was 8 years old. Attending school events with my mum such as family fun nights and the Henbury sports carnival as she has been a SESO/ teacher at Henbury for over 10 years.
You might recognise me from the "crocodile ad" on your television screen as I used to work as a reptile keeper at Crocosaurus Cove.
STAFF PROFILE – DAMIEN FULLER
My name is Damien, I am a SESO currently working in Sanderson Middle Outreach class with Nicole and am learning new things every day. I have worked with Henbury School for roughly around six and a half years, not just as a SESO in classroom setting but in OSHC during the holidays. OSHC is amazing, it’s allowed me to see our young guys and girls in two different lights. I enjoy working at Henbury not only with the students but with our great staff we have as well, so I will be hanging around for a while. I enjoy social activities and being out in nature.
HORTICULTURE SKILLS SET
The team have been working hard to get up the framing of our Bottle Greenhouse. We have made great progress, however we require a large amount of 1.25L Soft-drink bottles to complete our walls.
We welcome and appreciate any donations. Please drop off any bottles to the front office or send in with your child.
