HALT VISIT
Last week, five Highly Accomplished and Lead Teachers (HALT’s) from interstate plus two Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) Board Directors visited Henbury School. The purpose of this visit was to establish a network of HALT’s across Australia and share their collective knowledge. It was a fantastic opportunity for Henbury School to showcase best practice and the uniqueness of our school to educational leaders from across Australia. Our visitors had a chance to attend both of our work training sites in Nightcliff and enjoy morning tea at Henbury On Aralia while there.
AITSL SUMMIT
Joan Ocampo presented at the AITSL Summit for HALT’s which was held at the Darwin Convention Centre on Friday and Saturday. Joan shared her HALT Journey and the success story of Henbury Learning Commission. Year 11 student, Nadia Knight was the final speaker of the summit. She shared her educational journey. Nadia was overwhelmed by the standing ovation and commented, “People even cried.” Congratulations to both Joan and Nadia you make us very proud.

YELLOW 4
We have had a great start to 2019 in Yellow 4!
We meal plan, grocery shop, prepare and cook all of our meals in Yellow 4. The focus is on healthy eating with the occasional treat. Most meals we prepare have a healthy serving of protein, vegetables and carbohydrates. Snacks are usually fruit, yoghurt, crackers, hommus and popcorn.

Sometimes we buy our lunch at Casuarina!

Students have been participating in team sports and fitness sessions to support our healthy lifestyle focus!
Yellow 4 students have been busy with work training this year. We have been to WIMS, HPA and Cash for Cans.

A big success this year is our class business ‘The Cupcake Masters.’ We stock our ‘Henbury on Aralia’ café with yummy cupcakes baked and decorated by Yellow 4 students.

GREETINGS FROM THE YELLOW 5 CREW!
The students of Y5 have had a busy start to the year. This year we welcomed back Amanda, Caine, Mez, Banjo and Aidan along with Soroana who started her first year at Henbury.
Yellow 5 have been working on an Integrated Unit of Work entitled ‘Healthy Living’. The students have been participating in several physical activities and games including Rock and Water, Total Rec, Rising Stars Basketball, Fitness/Games with Yellow 4, dance and bike riding. Y5 students cook a hearty, healthy meal from scratch every week and make sure to add plenty of vegetables.
We have also been discussing emotions and the importance of mental health and personal wellbeing in our day to day lives. Group discussions have helped the students and staff to get to know each other more - creating a lovely bond between the class.
